Training
Trnity college is unavailable fo rthe time being unless you want to train on Mondays or Fridays which of course is hardly ideal. Suggestions for venues on a postcard so to speak, need this sorting ASAP otherwise the two teams will never become one club |

I still feel that there is advantages of both first and second teams training together but can have negative implications if someone is unable to train due to work or other commitments - both unfortunate for those who work and those who train. I know the decisions to pick the teams ultimately rest with Barry and Nick but could cause unrest if not managed properly and the last thing anyone wants is a fragmented Team with no back up. It has happened at other teams I have played for and ended up with players leaving as they were not being treated fairly. Everyone does deserve a run out and should maximise team spirit and ensure that the team does not suffer from players not having enough game time. These are my thoughts anyway and I just want the best for both the First and Seconds. I honestly don't know who else reads the messages apart from Dave and me but it would be nice if others did make comments.

Ultimately whatever we choose will not be ideal for everyone at the club, even our training time now means that a couple can't make training as it is. As for team selection, I used to try my best to make it fair a/ to the people that were there week in week out and b/ to the players that were committed to the club but couldn't make it week in week out. I found once again that there is no way to please everyone and therefore many have been upset with my decisions in the past (one of the reasons I quit a few weeks ago because I am fed up of players only looking at their situation). It also cost us a few points along the way when I had to play players not up to the standard required because the so-called better players let me down. Ultimately, Barry and Nic decide the teams now and it's up to them how they pick it, i.e do they go for the 11 best players or do they go for the 11 that deserve to play the most. It's purely up to them so I would advise anyone with a problem or concern to speak directly to them to help clarify the situation as I can no longer help. I know this sounds a bit dry and blunt but it's not aimed at you personally Marc, it's just that many others will complain about similar things despite having no right to do so and you get fed up of it after a while, hence me giving it up this season. I will, as you do actually have a valid point and are not just being selfish like some of the others, speak to Barry on your behalf, but I would advise that you speak to him as he ultimately will be the one deciding between players that can't/don't turn up and players that do.... PS Wish you had been here for last 2 seasons to know exactly what I am moaning about

Dave, I do know what you mean as I managed a Team for 7 years and players thought they had a right to play even if they did or didn't turn up for training. I couldn't win, so rotation was the only option, the Team did okay with the squad I had and at least it kept everyone moderately happy and the squad stayed together throughout this period but my football suffered due to the constant moaning of one or two players. My comments in my previous message were not a moan from myself as I have been grateful so far to play with a nice bunch of lads who enjoy their football but I do feel that by not playing regularly, and this does include me, the quality of a person's game can deteriorate on a temporary basis. My comments do though relate to how some players may feel and I know you can't please everyone. I agree that anyone who does have an issue should speak to Barry and/or Nick and Barry has welcomed this which is appreciated. |
