Me resigning...

As most of you will know now I have decided to step down as 1st team manager of Crayford F.C after this week's game against Glencoe Rangers. I have come to this decision after many weeks of discussion with various people and I feel it's the best thing to do for both myself and the club in the long term.

I will obviously speak to you over the next few weeks about this and no doubt you will have some questions as to why I have come to this decision. There are many reasons why I no longer want to carry on in this role but I will outline the main ones now.

Firstly, I started a new job at the end of June and I may even have another promotion coming up in early 2008 and this has to take priority. I don't want to have to worry about having to look after the players when I should be concentrating on my work, if I were to carry on with both, the team would suffer and has done slightly over the past month or two already.

Secondly, at the tender age of 21 I want to get back enjoying my football again as I no longer enjoy playing whilst being responsible for evryone else. I will have plenty of years to manage when i retire so I want to make the most of playing now.

Thirdly, as the majority of the team are my friends outside of football, I often have to do things as manager that temporarily affects the relationship we have together outside of football and I no longer want to do that. As manager I have come to see different sides of people that I really don't like and it makes the job quite depressing at times.

Over the last month or two I have really not been enjoying running the team and as a result I have not put as much effort in as I have done over the previous two seasons. Due to this, I feel the players have lacked a lot of discipline and that in turn has affected the atmosphere that had been present over the past two seasons. The team now needs someone new to come in who is willing to make things happen and install the discipline back in the team that has served us well in the past.

I leave the team in a good situation. Off the field we have made massive strides to improve, largely down to Debbie, Jane and Dennis. We have a new second team to bring the number of players up to about 35, and that's brialliant considering we had 8 at our first ever training session. The 1st team, on the back of that promotion, are in great shape to get promoted again having only lost 1 of 6 league games and we are still in 2 cups. Whoever the new permanent manager will be has a talented bunch of lads to move forward with so I feel very comfortable standing down at this point in time.

I feel very proud of my achievements in the two seasons that we have had so far. I have seen many players improve their games and work really hard for me. We got promoted and was unfortunate not to reach a cup final in our first season. I feel on our day we play some attractive football and long may that continue.

I would like to thank you all for your support over the last 2 1/4 years, it can't have been easy having a 21 yr old as manager but you never really took that for granted so thank-you for that. Let's make sure we still keep on track for promotion as our aims will not change.

Barry will take over as caretaker manager after this Sunday's game and I will assist him until a longer term solution is found to ensure that the transition is smooth and the players don't take advantage. Let's get behind one another and push forward to try and bring the club the first bit of silverware.

Up the Crays!
Debbie

Re: Me resigning...

I would like to wish Dave all the best and am sure that everyone will join me in that thought. The role he has had in the past is both demanding and difficult at times as I now know and I feel that many people do not know how much goes in to organising games of football every week. He has got Crayford to where it is today, and my job was easier with him to support me at the beginning. He deserves to enjoy football like everyone else and as I have already said, enjoy it Dave and all the best for your future. Debs xx

Resigning

Dave, I know where you are coming from. I spent 7 years managing a Team and felt that my performances during this time were not as good as when I wasn't managing. It also made it difficult to choose the Team of which I was a part. Age doesn't matter and players have respected your decisions and got on with it as they should. I agree that discipline could and should be better. If all the lads want to win some silverware they will need to pick their socks up and play better as a Team each week, including myself as my performances are below how I know I can play. I am happy to support Barry with training on a Wednesday and get the lads fitter and more focussed but still enjoying themselves as that is what Sunday football is about. I do feel that there is excellent Team spirit and everyone does get on really well. It is also difficult when you have a squad of 17+ players to choose from each week and we have all to accept that we may not be first choice each week as Barry stated on Wednesday. It is for 'all' of us to ensure that we play our best and get the Team where they deserve to be. Thanks for all your hard work Dave and I hope that you start to enjoy your football again very soon.
