Re: Site Still Under Construction

Hey Barney,

Looking forward to the site progress. Sox past it on to me the other day. I think Linux is an important OS for any self respecting geek to run on at least one machine locally. All too many “geeks” have computers just sitting around and collecting dust…I say….make them servers! Heck, if you have multiple dedicate a server for different functions. Setup Linux#1 as your local Samba, FTP, and SSH Server, Linux#2 as your Proxy/Firewall/Router, Linux#3 as your Web server, etc.

I too started with RedHat as my first. I went out to the store and purchased RedHat 6.0 Server for a little project at work and the rest is history. Now, I’ve been running with Fedora Core4 myself but also like to play with the others. I had an old AMD 500MHZ sitting around collecting dust and now this is sort of my main server at home. It does my primary file sharing, website, and soon VOIP server, proxy server, and network performance graphing.
(Sox knows about this one!)
:-)

As a Network Engineer I used to religiously keep a Dual Boot of Linux and the “Corporate Image” for advanced troubleshooting and analysis of networks. I have to say one of my favorite improvements out there have been the development of Cygwin and also the improvement of customized live disks.

I’m out there on winxpcentral.com as “james_ mi2“.
(Yes, the space there was a fat finger.)

Take Care!
J

Am a linux follower-the spirit of the open-source movement is really great. I was just dropping by from the bravehost.forum. By the way, if you have time check out phpbb2-opensource>> if you are looking as an alternative of this forum. Check out phpbb2 running in my forum at foroom.jarlsweb.com >>powered by bh.

Re: Site Still Under Construction

Thank's for visiting my forum. Hey, I see you registered.

I have no idea why you cannot access my forum. Like leave a message? I should have opened some thread so anybody can leave a message.

Running the forum and using phpbb2 is just an experiment for me. Next time just leave a message. Again thanks! By the way, your website is really cool!
