Electricity
If you're wondering, our van is powering the computer through an inverter. We have been without electric since monday morning, early! The line is down between our house and the highway, so we'll probably be the last to get it restored. Thank you to everybody for the kind words. I'm really pleased that there has been so much response. THERE WILL BE A REUNION NEXT YEAR! Probably at Twin Bridges State Park, if the school isn't running. Susie Stone is on the committee, and I'm not sure who else. Keep talkin', I just had to say a few words while I had the chance. Fredas |

Very pleased to see you up and running however, wish you were keeping a little warmer. We were out for 8 days last January. Fortunately, we had a gas log installed in the fireplace when we first bought this house, so that kept us warm. Along with that we have a gas waterheater..and that kept us clean:-)). We had an electric range in the kitchen so we couldn't cook. Did a lot of carry-out. The electric range was old and the oven went out right after the storm, so we replaced it with a gas range. If it happens again, at least we'll have stove top cooking. If you and Fredrea get too cold, just pack it up and come on to Springfield. We'd love to have you visit. I've got wireless so you can bring your laptops. So pleased to hear there will be a reunion next year. We'll talk about it later (when the priority list is shorter). |

We had no electricity from about 5:30 in the morning of Monday, Dec. 10, to 5:10 PM Saturday, Dec. 15. I was reminded in so many ways of living in Cardin is ain't even funny. The fireplace gave heat in one room, and it was the only comfortable room in the house. No hot water. You hated to pull your drawers down in the bathroom, but it was still way better than the outhouse. No phone. 13" b/w tv. (only for news and weather, as it is 12v, and didn't want to run the battery down) Piling more covers on the bed to keep warm, and not wanting to get out of bed to go to the bathroom, nor to get up in the cold mornings! In all, it was a humbling experience, and while not really enjoyable, if more people were to experience it, perhaps we would have a more understanding community! more later----- |

You're back up and running now...i.e., keeping warm and using electrical"things" at will! Hurray!! Yes, you are right about it being a humbling experience. It reminds us how far we have come and also how dependent we are and also, what the "real" world really is. It'll probably take you all a week or so to personally thaw.... ha ha Welcome back to the world of gas, water, and electricity!!! :-))) |

I was fortunate to have only lost power for 48 hours. Didn't get my cable, internet, phone for another 24 hours. My brothers were without power longer than me. Earnie - 6 days Jack - 3 days Dickie - 9 days You're right about how far we've come and how dependant we've become. Surely does make me feel good to see so many power trucks/workers here helping get us back up and running. |

I'm so glad most are getting their power back on. With Christmas coming, it would be very difficult. I'm just hoping everyone gets to be warm and at home by Christmas. When we were out last January (for 8 days), we didn't have anything special coming up; don't know what we would have done if there had been. Do you think everyone will be up by Christmas? |

My cousin in Tulsa or Broken Arrow just got hers back last night. And we thought Ottawa County was slow.... Just makes you think, don't it? |

Sometimes they get really slow like that. Only recently, I read in our newspaper about a woman in here town who didn't get her power back on for something like twenty-six days (during our icestorm last January). She was angry with the city and city utilities (all of our utilities are city-owned)about something else and that's when she told the newspaper about them taking so long to get her power back on. I don't know what was going on over there but, I know something was very, very wrong. Even when something isn't wrong, it takes a long time sometimes. I'm not sure what the problems are but, I'd sure like to know, wouldn't you. |
