Who says we don't get around??

Freda, you're probably surprised to see this name in your guest book. There is a story behind it that may give you a second surprise. I am presently living in. New Hampshire, but was born in Reading, Pennsylvania seventy five years ago. My mother was an accomplished harpist. She had been taught by an Indian who was born in 1895 on the Quapaw Reservation. He was born a 1/16th Indian, studied at the Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania. He apparently had a great influence on her as I was named after him. There is only one other that has this name as a forename and that is my grandson Cardin.

To make a long story short, on a whim this morning I decided to see what I could find about my namesake. I started checking the Indian census and one thing led to another and i decided to locate the Reservation and found the name of the tribe which led me to Quapaw and when I checked the map there was "Cardin"

I see that you have found the way to get back. You are doing a great job with the site. I wish that I had something to contribute, but alas, NOTHING

Now the second thing which amazes me is, My Great great Grandfather Is Daniel Dries and I find the town of Treece not too far from Cardin. This is one of the variants of the German or Dutch name of Dries.

Keep up the good, no excellent work and I will be back to visit often

I visit the site at times and always find it heart warming. Memories are a great thing. Keep up the good work. Hey to Tom, and glad all is well from his last hospital visit.

I've also been contacted recently by Oscar Bilharz, grandson (born in Baxter Springs) of Oscar Max Bilharz, who founded Bilharz Mining. I'm posting some of his memories on the "memories" page soon.
