Grade School

I have a memory problem. I know I started the sixth grade in Cardin in 1955. I know that during the school year, we moved to the new school. Which year was it? 55 or 56?
Also, I need our fifth and sixth grade pictures. I have first through fourth if any one wants a copy.
If you have any old pictures of or in Cardin, I'll post them if you send me a copy.

Re: Grade School

According to the book "Hard Rock Legacy", it was either the fall of 1957, or April 9, 1956. Take your pick.

Re: Grade School

It would have been the '56 date.

In '54 / '55 I was in the 7th and the location was a mess.

In '55 / '56 mom put Nokie and I in the Catholic school in Miami. That lasted until about January of '56. Transportation to and from Miami was just too difficult. We were moved back to the Picher schools. I think Betty Jean went straight to the new school.

Our house on Trails End had burned down during the '55 / '56 year and we had moved into Issy Zablonski's rental on 4th (down at the end of Columbus).

I was at PHS for the 56/57 year. That would have been my 9th grade. I still have the diploma.

Here are a few names for your memories.

Paul Cook, Ralph Leslie, Larry Olds, Mustard Mayberry, and his sister Donna, David Bigley, Robert Sharp, Rector (I think his first name is Troy, not sure), Gary Krokroski (spelling may be wrong).

Funny thing about Issy. You may recall that he had the shoe store on Main. A few years ago, there was a teachers aide (or maybe a temp) working with my wife at the Alvarado Elementary school. One day he and Rose were talking and she mentioned that I was from Picher, Oklahoma and he said that his great uncle once owned a shoe store there. Yep, Issy.

For a long time there was a Zablonski award for the best paper about Oklahoma. Anyway, this is far afield.

Re: Grade School

Thanks, Ed. I certainly appreciate your "extras"! Things like that shouldn't be forgotten.
