Re: Books about Tar Creek and Picher

Also, there are a number of magazine articles about the area. One that I recall from the '50s. Ford Times, a little booklet with paintings of mines and mills around the area. The art was by a man from Miami. Really great stuff. I have seen copies of the ford times in auction on eBay. I think it was about '54.

Then there was the magazine article I gave to Mr. Mathews that had a photo of three or four civic leaders bent low over a hole in 2nd Street. Top of a mine cavern (Picher 8?). This was a geology mag that Brian Dang gave me. I may have another copy. I will keep an eye for it.

All the little tid bits. If I find something, I will copy Fredas and hope others will as well.

Re: Books about Tar Creek and Picher

Thanks, Ed. I found some really neat pictures in the Baxter Springs Museum as well as the Dobson in Miami. I just haven't got them cleaned up and posted yet. One is the Commerce Mining and Royalty Supply Depot from 1936, which became the Eagle-Picher offices and supply depot. It was just west of the tracks, on the north side of the road in Cardin.
Another of the Blue Goose from 1944, showing the Ritz and one of the Beavers.
I've been in touch with descendants of the Cardins, and have been chasing their family history, holdings, etc. I've taken some good pictures of their gravesites, The Kenoyer, Cardin, and Corbett buildings. All in the mix, coming soon.

Oh yea, we called it Four Mile Creek, too. I haven't looked at a map yet, but I'm sure that's the real name of it. I learned that Dardene's on five mile, east of Baxter got wiped out by a flood.
