Mining towns
Hello! I visit this sight often and i love it! I lived in Cardin off and on with my Dad Larry and younger sister Patricia (sometimes living with my great aunt Allie Cover. I was raised between Cardin and Leadwood Missouri (about 5 miles from where i live now with my 15 y/o son). The entire area around where i live in ParkHills Missouri was also a lead mining community. The is a HUGE abandoned lead mine in Bonne Terre Missouri about 5 miles north of ParkHills that is now a tourist attraction and has been for years. Anyone interested in visiting the web-site to that particular mine can do so by going to www.2dive.com. I've been there a couple times and its amazing! Communities here have been "lead tested" ect. and i think it's ridiculous to say the least. They are now in the process of tearing down the last big chat pile in ParkHills, i'll be sad to see it go. I was fortunate enough to visit Picher back in April of this year and took alot of pictures while i was there. I was able to visit with my 1st grade teacher Sue Sigle at the Picher 90th birthday celebration and she remembered me! What a wonderful lady she is. I plan to visit again in October if at all possible. My thoughts and prayers go out to the residents of Picher and Cardin for all the sadness and tragedy everyone there has suffered due to the buyout and the devistating torando. God Bless all of you!
