So far as I have read the Mexicans have now claimed that their tomatoes are not to blame and there is still no sign of an infected tomato even though the number of reported cases continue to climb.
Presumably not all of the new cases are historical re-attributions from weeks ago.
So if it isn't the tomatoes it must be something else OR its is coincidental. Either way the investigative methods used come into question. Extending that it could be assumed that similar methods are used throughout US science and probably the rest of the world.
One can only speculate about the damage caused to entirely innocent things from completely unrelated associations.
