Re: tejano dead?

Tejanos,

It is NAFTA at work, the only thing wrong with it is that it is supposed to work two ways between Mexico and America, but so far it has been Mexico only. Why? Because the rich mejicanos in America do not care about saving the tejano culture, it is all about how much money can go into their pockets and also I only speak english no savvy speaky mejicano.

Re: tejano dead?

I agree about tejano dying, even American Forces Network won't play tejano music.
I am a soldier station in Germany, yes even AFN won't play tejano music. AFN plays a lot of country, hip-hop and rock and roll, but no tejano music.
Some bands started playing in small what I call suger shacks and now that they are a popular band and making the big dinero, they forgot the suger shacks, the poor mejicano who can not afford to pay even ten dollars to go to a mexican dance and hear their favorite tejano band.

Re: tejano dead?

I do believe it is dying i live in turlock california and there is no tejano music played on no station. You do here alot of banda and it kills me cause i have seen a couple of nice rides that say tejano pride or the texas flag on there car so i know my people are here but no music or culture. Lets all keep our culture alive all it takes is a lil from everyone of us leave the greed out and come together so we can live on for our children as mine did for me.

Re: tejano dead?

I think it is dying, I went to my home town Asherton, Tx. in December and was looking forward to be able to listen to the local tejano stations and the new releases...I was shocked to find out how much of the Laredo, Eagle Pass and Del Rio area were playing Mexican music and not Tejano music. I live in Woodburn, Oregon and I am happy to say we have a local place here that will play tejano music (DJ or Live band) every other Saturdays. I wish they would have it every Saturday, but it is a start and I let everyone know they should go and support Tejano Music. I remember back in the day when my parents and there freinds would go almost every Saturday night. Although tejano music lives in my heart, we Tejanos need to keep this going with our children and start being more outspoken on Tejano traditions and music, where ever we live! Since there are Tejanos in all states we need to push and support our local radio station and community to promote Tejano music.

Re: tejano dead?

Maybe it's just me, but I just can't stand the norteno (mexico) music. I feel like there's no rythm. all I see is people jumping up and down. Now, Tejano music on the other hand, You can feel the music and really get into the dancing! In tejano music I love spinning the girl and doing different manuvers that look really cool while dancing and with the cumbia too. I went to marketsquare for the first time when all the bands were playing. I don't think tejano is dying because there were alot of tejanos that night that wanted to hear and dance to the music. Also, I'm 18 and I feel We need more Tejano clubs for the 18 and up because we are the future and if there are so many clubs that are just 21 and up, where the good tejano bands/music is being played. How is tejano suppose to sprout within the young population?
