How can we save tejano?
Maybe tejano needs a little revamping. For example, give the young and up upcoming bands more exposure to target the younger crowds. Maybe even change the sound a little; give a different sound to rancheras or give a different look to the artist. Play less of the older tejano artist’s music. Not to disrespect any of them, because I really am a big fan of them all. These are only ideas! I think a lot of tejano lovers and fans are just too cheap! They are not willing to support and pay good money to see tejano bands; that is unless they are getting some kind of deal out of it! The mexicanos are willing to pay anything just to hear their music (Banda,Nortenos,Cumbias,Ect..) and of course to have a good time. So why can’t we as “Tejanos” do the same? Please post any ideas, I would love to read them. Peace, Da Tejano Lover |

Tejano is not wearing down it's just that there are no places in other parts of texas that just play pure tejano music. If there was a place that played tejano and Cumbia's it would sky rocket in other cities. For example, I'm from Waco,Tx and the only places to listen to tejano music would be to go to quincenera's, wedding's, or anniversery's. I beleive your right about really good tejano bands that are out there that should be paid well, but not 10-20 grand a night. I believe people like Jay Perez,Ruben Ramos, Kumbia Kings, Grupo Vida, and Emilio can really keep tejano going if they didn't ask so much money to play in certain cities. It seems like the mexicanos are rising with there ranchero music. Personally, I can't Stand the music there's no rythmn. All I see is people hopping around and making odd whistle sounds and such things. In Tejano Music you can feel the music, do spins while dancing and really get into the music with soul and passion. |

I believe you are both correct. Tejano is very much alive! But, we are spoiled in thet there are many bands out there (not all good) and we don't wanna spend money. Why not? Just remember the saying "you get what you pay for". Some stations are playing TO MUCH norteno which is fine just remember that Tejano started in Texas(Tejas) and we don't all wanna see people hopping around, hearing banda, or cumbias. I also believe it would be good to give exposure to the new bands but remember that the bands before us got us were we're at doing what we love. I would like to end by saying that Tejano never was or is dead! From El Valle and Tejano And Pround!!!!

I feel as though Tejano is coming back strong, not fast but its coming back soon! I live in the DFW and let me say that Tejano clubs are popping up out of nowhere. That only means that there is still a market for it and maybe the youth has finally retapped into our music again. Let the young bands get airplay and let them help the movement come back in. Remember the days when bands like La Sombra, Bobby Pulido, Elida Y Avante were playing, they naturally attracted the young because they were young as well so the youth would look up to them. Girls were wanting to see their favorite young energetic bands perform and everyone knows where the girls are the boys will follow. Creating a chain reaction to all live venues of tejano. Now you got the basic classic artists that continue to get all the airplay, and guess what it can get boring too!! No disrespect to them but this is the truth. Give the future of Tejano a chance to play alongside the big bands to get recognition too. Jay, DLG,Jimmy, they won't all be around forever. Its time to llisten to new artists please!!!!! Not just here at TejanoFM but at our local stations. |

tejano music has been around for years and it will never die.Hearing it being sung in the fields when i was a kid was really something else. It's true that tejano music needs more exposure especially in radio stations. Many station don't last long, and to me thats want we need. To be able to turn on the radio at any give time and listen to the music is awsome. But in many cities you can't do that. We need more support and advertisement to keep our music on the air at all times. Not to listen to it 24/7 is bull, and that my opinion. But the music in our hearts will never die. |

Tejano is more than just a dance or being for the young ... it's "la mula", dinero, la feria ... the major players are those major companies that target for the hispanic dollar being spent everyday ... los mexicanos don't ask for it and we Tejanos don't complain about no Tejano radio or TV programing that we would like to have everyday ... we need to complain to the leaders in your states that you live in ... your voting POWER at work !!! ... spread the word, RAZITA !!!!! rc/ttg |
