Congratulations to Veronica Y Avance
Veronica y Avance Competed in and won the 2006 Tejano Vegas Showcase. Here is just a couple of things people have said about their performance: Troy Martinez Old post Yesterday at 10:56 AM Reply with quote I just got back from the 2006 tejano vegas showcase and it was awesome, band like jimmy gonzalez, elida, dos gilbertos, hometown boyz, all awesome awesome bands. Not only did i get to see them but i got to watch the tejano vegas showcase. in case you dont know, the showcase is a competition where all up and coming bands from all over the nation compete, the vote is submitted by the crowd. And there is also record labels and promoters the up and coming bands get to talk with, people like Chris Liek and Joey Jr. from Joey records where there. I saw all great bands, Medaya, Lina y Estilo, El Gringo(good accordion boy,14,)Missy Y Expression, Illusion Nortena, and i think those where all of them. One band i got to see that ive heard a lot from is Veronica Y Avance, i Saw there performance and it was **** good. The Singer the Sax Player and The Accordionist where my favorites in the whole competition. The singer it think is only like 16 and the sax player is like 15 and the accoridionist is like 16 too i think. Well anyways they put on an awesome show and they were playing al lot of original music. even original polkas. I think they truly deserve the Award. Not only because of their ability to play well, but because they were one of the frienliest bands out there. Networking all the time. And pleese remember to check out my magazine coming out this Fall MusiLat Magazine, covering all latin music, with a favoritisim on tejano to make listeners of other genres of music more aware of Tejano music. it will cover everything from major bands a labels to indy bands and awesome local bands. Carlos Oliveres ld definatley have to agree. Veronica y Avance is great example that Tejano has a future. And yes they were very approachable and very nice to talk to. All the bands there were great Lina from lina y Estilo can belt. She should have received second place in my opinion. I heard Veronica do an interview and said they will have a CD out by the end of the year. The polka was awesome. DJ Ritmo Veronica y Avance won the Tejano Vegas Showcase competition. They beat out 7 other bands including Hermanos Cortez, Linna y Estilo and El Gringo. In fact, I managed to spend quite a bit of time with Veronica and her family and learned alot about their future plans. Veronica y Avance features mostly family members and they are all young from teens up to early-20s in age. And the energy of their youth showed that day in Vegas during the competition. The bass player is female and she jams on the bass. You can feel her get into it on stage and it comes through with a slight funk rhythm. The accordian player is a young kid who plays with attitude and it shows. He wears his sunglasses at night as he works it on stage. The sax player wails on stage as he holds the sax away from his body and works it into the microphone. And Veronica has a great charm on stage and can use that to her advantage to work the crowd. The band featured coordinated dance moves that day and, to me, that clinched the contest. The industry needs more of this type of excitement. They remind me of La Sombra back in the late 80s/early 90s. We interviewed Veronica several weeks ago and played a song from their demo. They are talking about going into the studio to record a full-length cd. I will be keeping in touch with Veronica and follow their development and keep you up to date. I want to interview her again maybe next week to follow up on their award from Vegas. I need to talk to Tomas to get the green light and then I'll put the call into Veronica. I'll keep you posted. |
