JACKETED PIPE SPANS

Anyone have information on allowable jacket pipe span between supports?

Re: JACKETED PIPE SPANS

It seems the best we have at the moment is a span chart showing bare, insulated, empty and full piping ...

That can be found in the "tools" page under the "piping" section.

By the way, if anyone has got a jacketed pipe span guide, send it on to me, info@pipingdesigners.com, and I'll be able to put it on the site for all to use!

Re: JACKETED PIPE SPANS

At the very least, "jacketing" will of course add a little extra distributed weight to pipe beams (and the beams must obviously be adequately strong to support this weight). I think there are all kinds of "jackets" and/or other insulation systems out there, and many of these are substantially less firm/strong than say steel and ductile iron piping often used. Therefore, this can complicate various support issues, particularly if the support bearing is to be on the jacketing, and it is probably best to consult with the manufacturer and/or promoter of the specific insulation/jacketing system for their recommendations/experiences relative to support and spans in these cases.

Re: JACKETED PIPE SPANS

A Basic explanation is as follows
Jacketed pipe spans for supports are same as single pipe spans except for the following additional criteria used to size the structural members supporting. eg A 6" Schedule 40 CS jacket c/w a 4" sch 40 CS core should have support spans as per tables for a 6" sch 40 water filled pipe, the core is spaced inside the jacket using spacers to suit 4" spacing, Additional information required for sizing of structural members is pipe weights based on schedules and total weight/linear metre of both core and jacket water filled.Hope this helps.
Anto maybe a worthwhile project for someone to do up a table based on the above criteria
