Piping Checker Position in Santa Ana, CA
PIPING CHECKER SUMMARY Under direction of Lead Mechanical Designer/Checker, Project Engineers, and Project Managers, performs mechanical and piping designs and layouts in support of the engineering function. Create customer, assembly and fabrication drawings for skid mounted industrial process systems. Determine scales, perform calculations, prepares requisitions and bill of materials. Ability to understand, create and maintain a detailed scope of work and schedule. Provide guidance and mentor other designers. Effectively manage and appropriately document change. Understand and assist designers with progress measurement. Requires strong leadership, organizational, verbal and written communication skills. Have effective working relations with all disciplines, peers, clients, and management. Thorough knowledge of piping designs, piping systems, equipment orientation, arrangement and functions. Knowledge of basic stress and thermal expansion. Complete understanding of pipe specifications, piping components, materials of construction, valve selection, pressure ratings, pipe sizing and pipe support. Ability to check and approve vendor drawings. Opportunity for occasional travel to power plant locations to generate field piping and routing drawings. Knowledge of AutoCAD2000, and isometric software and associated peripheral equipment to create piping arrangement drawings, process flow and P&ID’s required. Candidate must have initiative to learn new concepts and willing to take responsibility of design/drawing activities. FUNCTIONS ·Produce a variety of engineering drawings to completely define end-product requirements using established engineering and drafting standards. ·Create mechanical equipment layouts, piping layouts, P&I diagrams, assembly and fabrication drawings. ·Utilize knowledge of engineering practices, mathematics, electrical and mechanical materials and other physical sciences to complete design tasks including bills of material and drawings. ·Perform tasks requiring dimensioning and tolerancing. ·Communicate with project team, suppliers, and customers as required to complete design tasks. ·Utilize machine shop knowledge to complete shop fabrication drawings. ·Maintain engineering and drawing files and engineering library according to department procedures. REQUIREMENTS ·Possess a working knowledge of AutoCAD 2000 software. ·Computer literate in Microsoft Office® spreadsheets and word processing and data management software. ·Knowledge of ANSI/ASME Code Standards B31.1 and B31.3. ·Ability to handle multiple simultaneous projects and work within deadlines and budgets ·Minimum 7 years experience.
