3D Bend

Hi,
Can anyone explain a easy way to produce a 3D bend? I have been told the only way is to draw it in 3D, can it be done in 2D? Looking at a bend in 2D it would appear that the inside of the bend moves towards the centre line and the outside of the bend moves away from the centre line,is there a way of calculating this offset.

Thanks for any help given

Re: 3D Bend

What are you trying to achieve?.
For a start there is no way to draw anything 3D in 2D. If you draw something in 2D it is 2D.

Do you mean you are trying to draw in perspective view. If so then you need to go back to drawing class. This is one of the most basic of drawing techniques and is one of the first things you would learn in any draughting course.
Any proper course will teach you all the basic on a drawing board before using CAD.

Re: 3D Bend

Thank you for your reply, I require the shape of the bend in order to check for bend passing of a pipeline insection vehicle. After looking at 2d drawings of a 3D pipe bend the I/D and O/D move off centre, maybe this offset could be done in 2d if you know how. Although I can use CAD in the 2d I have no experience with 3d.

Re: 3D Bend

It is possible to draw what you are looking for. Not very easy to get it 100% accurate but good enough to check for clashes.
It is not something that you can describe easily though. You would need to be shown.
Remember however that even though the lines do seem to move off centre the diameter always will remain the same.
You need to project lines from one view into another at the angle you want to see.
Like I said. It's hard to describe.

I know what you mean, I have been told it would not be easy this appears to be the case. Thank you for your time.

Re: 3D Bend

Crap I thought he meant 3D (diameter) bends. Maybe he does .Are you designing a pipe line if so take the diameter of the pipe multiplies by 3. Set compass to the required setting strike arc from center line of the pipe in both directions at point where lines intersect place compass and draw bend
