Re: PIPING DESIGNERS PLEASE HELP ME.....

My, isn’t this interesting. Here is a person that appears to be more intelligent than his boss and his Company. This person is aware that he (or she) does not know a lot about piping. However, he knows enough to ask for help. I would bet that if piping training were available at a school near where he lives he would already be enrolled in the course.

The Company/Boss does not know what he does not know. They think that they can set anyone down at a drafting table (or CAD machine) and there will be magic. All of you “gray hairs” out there know just what I am talking about. This Company would not ask this person to operate a 100 ton crane unless they were sure that he were properly trained, tested and experienced. They would not ask him to do brain surgery on their own child either without being properly trained and qualified. Why do they ask him to do piping without making sure he has proper training?

I admit that piping is not brain surgery, but it is still a very complex profession that does require proper training, testing and experience. Companies who do not recognize this and do not provide entry level training or insist on an ongoing advanced level training program are on a downward slope to mediocrity.

Pattnaik, You said, above, that you are working "in" a refinery in Kuwait. If so then I would suggest for a starter find the main engineering records office. This would be the place where the drawings are stored from the original construction. With permission, make copies of a large group (20 or 30 to start with) of random isometrics. Study the symbols, try to figure out what the symbol represents and how they are drawen. Now, go out to the field and find these pipe runs in place and study them very carefully. This approach will not replace or be the same as my classroom lecture but I think you are smart enough to figure out a lot.
You should also buy a basic piping training book. Look down through this Forum subject listing for "Piping Training Books"
Dont be shy about asking more questions.
Regards,
Jop

Re: PIPING DESIGNERS PLEASE HELP ME.....

In thae absence of someone to train you, you should do as JOP suggested, with regard to Iso's and reference books. Also, when you get your hands on Iso's, try to get a hold on corrosponding pids and try to work out the relationship between them, and how they apply to site situations.

Also, the training section on this site, seems to contain a lot of really useful information, that would also be useful in giving you a good overview of what's going on. Good luck, and keep asking questions.

Re: PIPING DESIGNERS PLEASE HELP ME.....

This is the company I was employeed by for almost 40 years. They were known for the best training in the piping world. It is where I learned piping. It is where I also taught many, many pipers. You may want to check it out.

Re: PIPING DESIGNERS PLEASE HELP ME.....

Sameer,

Never never never work for nothing! In the long run, your employer will not respect you, nor will you respect yourself. Slavery is against UN Human Rights.

I tell you from personal experience that Fluor, and anybody else that needs a piping designer, can afford to pay you! If you have talent, they will train you for nothing.

BOB
