Re: Welcome to your new K1 Triathlon Clubs Forum
Thanks Roy,
I hope this addresses the issues you had with the "Threads" being "stolen" on the Google Groups Discussion Board.

Roy explained something about the threads at this morning's swim. Not many of us grasped it. but we'll try to not hijack anything!

Re: Welcome to your new K1 Triathlon Clubs Forum
Haldane,
It's straight forward enough.
If you have a new subject of converstion, then satrt a new thread, just remember to tick the box for receiving email notification when someone replies to your subject.

Re: Welcome to your new K1 Triathlon Clubs Forum
OK, so if I understand right this 'problem' is in reference to the emails that come out of the Google-Groups thing ?
But what about those of us who don't want to log onto that every time we send an email to the club
I will always put a new subject in the email header if it's on a new topic - does this automatically create a new thread ?
Cheers

Re: Welcome to your new K1 Triathlon Clubs Forum
Hi Steve,
The 'problem' that was raised by Roy was that when a 'Thread' was started to discuss a certain topic, it may then be used by someone wanting to discuss something else thereby breaking the chain of what was the original topic.
This forum has been created so that a subject can be raised then seen and replied to under that heading thereby making it a logical read for anyone interested to do so.
The google=groups mailing is good for those messages that need to be addressed to all members at once (as long as they have registered to receive them).
I hope that answers your query?

Re: Welcome to your new K1 Triathlon Clubs Forum
Right,
so there is:
Google=Groups email -> Suitable for sending stuff to everyone quickly
Google Discussion board -> Which had the threads problem and is being discouraged in favour of...
These Forums
Have I got that right ?

Re: Welcome to your new K1 Triathlon Clubs Forum
When you write to google-groups it lists all discussions under the subject heading you used in the 'Subject Line' of the email, so if Haldane sends out the TT Results and that is the name in the Subject Line all answers Re: that subject will be listed under it in the Google-groups and would make a 'thread'.
What has happened is that someone then uses that email to start or answer another message. Therefore the conversation under the subject 'TT Results' becomes about a BBQ that has been arranged and is no longer about the 'TT Results'.
There is a function on the google-groups to create pages and discuss under the page heading, but members are reluctant to take the time and log on to google-groups to use this, as it is much easier just to reply to an email in their inbox. The same as I suspect they will be to use this forum.
Anyway, all options are open and it will be up to the membership how they wish to discuss matters and how visible thwy want their discussions to be and how they flow.
