Binley Woods 2 Brinklow 5 Complete dominance of the first 20 minutes & some of the best passing football I have seen from our team was not rewards with the goals it deserved. We then let frustration get the better of us, we started to rush the passes & stopped playing the football that had created so many chances in the first quarter of the game. Going in 2-0 down at half time was a shock to the lads but our half time team talk asked for patience & to keep playing football. After yet more chances went begging (& a crucial goal line clearance from Lee which, if it had gone in, would surely have knocked the stuffing out of our lads) up stepped JJ with an absolute bullet of a header to bring the score back to 2-1. After this there was only ever going to be one winner, the chances started to go in, & we finished the game 5-2 up & a much deserved win. I believe we have benefited greatly from the training throughout the summer, the fitness was there to see & we played well as a team, We must however concentrate on our pace at the back as this lead to conceding the 2 goals & of course our FINISHING!!! All in all, a good start to the season!

Binley Woods 2 – 5 Brinklow The first game for the under 15’s saw an away trip to play neighbours Binley Woods, and from the start it was Brinklow who took control of the game by constantly getting in the Binley’s area. And if it wasn’t for their goal keeper and some off target finishing, they could of easily been 5-0 up after 20 minute’s. Around the half hour mark and against all play Binley broke down the middle and managed to slot the ball away giving them the lead. With Brinklow having much more of the play, Binley Wood’s scored their second just before the half time taking them in to the break 2-0 up. After a good half time talk from coaches and players, this seemed to spur them on and 15 minutes in to the second half saw Brinklow take probably their 10th corner, and this time Alex Linnell found Jamie Huddlestone, who ‘s bullet header flew in the back of the net off the underside of the cross Bar. After this Brinklow really took control and goals came soon after from, Jack Farrant, Tommy Hyde, Alex Linnell, and new signing Callum Flaxton giving Brinklow a deserved 5-2 victory. |

Finham Lions 2 Brinklow 4 (Friendly) I suppose it's a measure of our improvement that I'm not completely thrilled to have come away with a win in a match against a team 1 league above us. We played 'OK' today & at 2-0 up appeared to be coasting towards the win until a dodgy linesman sipping a cup of tea (sorry guys!) missed an offside (perhaps?) & gave Finham the spur they needed to fight back. The equaliser soon followed before we managed to switch back up a gear and get a further two goals & the win we deserved. We made many switches to players positions today which I think may have interrupted the flow of our play but this did enable us to take a look at players playing in different roles & will enable us to more easily arrange cover for injuries later in the season. keep up the good start guys

Brinklow 4 London Rd 4 The unbeaten run continues but we need to learn how to hold onto a lead. At 4-2 up in the second half we decided to go route one which only succeeded in giving the ball back to London Rd, Remember lads what Martin said on training on Wednesday 'If YOU have the ball THEY can't score' Can't fault the strikers today as the quality of our goals was first rate with Hydo probably shading it as my MOTM (The competition for places up front is certainly paying dividends). Defensively we played better as a unit but a couple of basic errors cost us dear. This is more disappointing since I thought we had eliminated an element that plagued us last season. On a more positive note we have now taken 4 points from 6 against teams we lost to at the back end of last season. The confidence is back & the performances suggest winning this league is within our abilities.

Brinklow u15's 13 Mount Nod 1 A couple of belters along with some good team goals meant that the u15's got back into winning ways in style. The killer instinct in front of goal was there today but both myself & Bolty would have been happier to have seen more control & passing in our play - I suppose you can't have everything! At 8-0 up before half time we would have liked to have seen the players keep the ball rather than looking for the spectacular, this I think cost us yet more goals but more importantly we missed a good opportunity to practice the 'keep ball' situations we have been going through in training. On a positive note there is no doubt that confidence in front of goal is strong at the moment with goals coming throughout the team. I make it 29 goals in 5 league games which is an excellent return. A down side of this however, is that in our eagerness to push forward we are leaving the defence exposed & leaking a few more than we would like. I'd Just like to say thankyou to Mount Nod. The score doesn't reflect the fact that they are capable of playing some atractive football & but for some fine saves from Matty they should have been rewarded with a couple more goals. We have 'Red House' next week - Matty is in Ireland on Rugby tour & may not be available to play in goal on Sunday, We will therefore be asking for volunteers at training on Wednesday. Well done lads!!

Red House 1 Brinklow 5 This really should have been more comfortable. A low key start & I was beginning to wonder if it was going to be one of those days, however 3 goals all with quality finishes saw us go into a comfortable lead. We then took our foot off the gas & gave Red House a sniff, conceding a soft goal to a simple ball over the top. A couple of fine saves at a critical time from stand in keeper Rich Judge kept our 2 goal cushion. With 20 minutes to go & with Brinklow lacking substitutes due to illness, Lee Huddlestone was up-ended & had to be carried off. Down to 10 men & the situation looking decidedly dodgy as we weren't playing that well, however the injury seemed to galvanise the lads. Some better team football & JJ taking command at the back resulted in us getting the killer fourth, eventually running out 5-1 winners. 34 goals in 6 games eh lads! - not bad for a team who we the management said had to work on their finishing!! Special mention to Sam Hayley for helping us out, Brandon who I thought was excellent today & of course Rich in goal (Matty owes you a pint!)

Whitley 1 – 7 Brinklow Brinklow continued their fine form with a convincing 7 – 1 win away to Whitley. From the very start they created chance after chance, only for the final ball to go just wide or the keeper saving it, and with the eager strikers we just kept timing our runs a little quick and kept getting caught offside as Whitley were defending on the half way line. With chance after chance still being created, Brinklow went a deserved 1-0 up only for Whitley to level the score just before the Break. Second half, and the Brinklow pressure carried on, and it wasn’t long before the goals started going in from in total 6 different players, and with good play from all Brinklow players the game ended with a comfortable 7-1 to the Yellow and Blue’s of Brinklow. Goals: Shaun McBride, Jamie Huddlestone, Tommy Hyde (2), Alex Linnell, Jack Farrent and Callum Flaxton. |

Mount Nod 4 – 10 Brinklow Brinklow’s last game before the Christmas break was full of goals when within the first 3 minutes of the start they were a well deserved 1-0 up. With some good passing from all they were a comfortable 6-1 up at the break. The second half saw Brinklow take their foot of the pressure and allowed Mount Nod to add 3 more goals to Brinklow’s 4, making the final score 10-4 to the away team. |

Brinklow 6 – 1 RedHouse Juniors The first game of the new year for the under 15’s saw them take on Red House Juniors, and they certainly showed that they were up for a battle by gaining much possession from the start. With near misses coming from the chances they were creating, they managed to find the net with a well taken shot giving them the lead. The second goal came around the half hour mark and Brinklow held on to this taking them in to the break 2-0 up. Second half saw Brinklow control the play and Red House found it very hard to break through, and as the game progressed, Brinklow added another 4 goals, to Red House’s 1, ending with a well deserved 6-1 to the home side. Goals came from: Steve Brannen, Alex Linnell, Jake McBride, Shaun McBride, and Sam Hayley(2). |

Brinklow 6 – 1 London Road With bags of determination and commitment, the under 15’s were rewarded with a well deserved 6-1 victory against table toppers London Road. Every player gave 100% and if they did loose possession their eagerness was soon rewarded by getting the ball back. After some narrow misses in the first ten minutes they soon found the back of the net, and from then on Brinklow never looked back. Second half and they maintained the hard work and would have kept a deservedly clean sheet if it wasn’t for a penalty which they converted ending with a well deserved 6-1 to the yellow and blues of Brinklow Goals came from: Shaun McBride(2), Alex Linnell, Jack Farrant, Callum Flaxton, Jake McBride |

Brinklow 6 London Rd 1 What can you say!! London Rd, top of the table against a Brinklow side struggling to field a team due to injuries (Thanks to Taz for getting off his sick bed so we had a sub). London Rd started the game with 10 men & although we were playing well it was still 0-0 by the time their 11th player entered the field on 20 minutes. I thought London Rd would then step up a gear as they have done in the last 2 encounters; however it was us who seemed to kick on. Some fabulous passing moves lead to us taking a 3-0 into half time. Playing 4-5-1 on a very big pitch & putting Dale Cooper into the role of a defensive midfielder from the start of the game seemed an inspired idea as he picked up all the loose ball, closed down when London Rd looked like they where going to break & did everything we had asked him to do (well done Dale, your best game of the season). The 5 in midfield allowed our creative players more freedom to get forward & London Rd never really adapted to the formation. A fourth soon followed & the space on the large pitch allowed us to play our passing game. A clean sheet looked on the cards when a breakaway from London Rd resulted in a marvellous fingertip save from Matty to just turn the ball around the post when the ball looked destined for the bottom corner. However a London Rd player went down easily in the Brinklow Box & the ref awarded a penalty which was dispatched to make the score 4-1. Usually after conceding we tend to get frustrated & loose our shape but today was an exception as we continued to play some beautiful football & ran out deserved winners 6-1. Obviously our best result of the season but the most pleasing thing was the way we continued to play our passing game. Usually we start games in this fashion but after 25 minutes we loose our shape & stop passing the ball. Today we passed the ball right up to the final whilst, it was a great performance & a joy to watch. WELL DONE LADS!! Thanks to steve Hyde for the Photos which you can view HERE |

Brinklow 4 Christ the King 2 If I'm honest this was the remaining fixture that I feared the most. CTC had given us a lesson in the use of power & pace earlier in the season & had deservedly taken the points, however today was a different story. Defensively this was the most compact I have seen us play with everyone working hard to prevent the pace of CTC getting around the back & although CTc probably had more of the ball in the 2nd half it is a credit to the team that Matty was rarely troubled in goal & we never really looked like taking anything but 3 points from the game. Welcome to Spence & trigger our 'last minute' signing's on. Both of you were excellent today & have given our depleted squad a real boost just when we need it. Hopefully we can reward you with some silverware at the end of the season!! I believe the win today means we stay top but there have been a few hiccups with the published league tables which I'm reliably informed will be resolved our the next couple of days.

still some issues with the leagues table which I have reported but my best estimate is that we are 2nd:- London Rd P13 30pt's Brinklow P13 28pt's Cov Sec P16 26pt's Whitley P16 24pt's CTC P16 19pt's (The official table reports London rd with 33pt's & not having lost a game - somewhere there is an error as we beat them 6-1 a couple of weeks ago)

Red House 1 Brinklow 2 Not the greatest performance in the world today, the wind & bobbly pitch meant we were unable to play our usual passing game. 1-0 down at half time & frustrations were running high. Half time came at just the right time, we were able to compose ourselfs & playing into the wind 2nd half meant we were able to get onto the through balls that the wind had taken away from us in the first half. This was potentially a real banana skin, how Red house are bottom of this league is beyond me & credit must go to them for giving us a real scare. Results have gone our way again today & if our result had been posted to the league we would now be sitting top

Binley Woods 1 – 5 Brinklow Brinklow did their position as league leaders no harm with a convincing win against local’s Binley Woods. With only 11 players available through injury or illness, it meant a hard battle from the whole team to get what we wanted out of the game. From the start of the game it was clear the team were up for a win with some excellent play from all areas of the field, and with all the pressure being applied they went in to the break 2-0 up. Second half we had to start the game with 10 men as a hamstring problem from Striker Jack Farrant meant having to re-shuffle the positions to accommodate, and luckily he decided he wanted to re take his role about 15 minutes in to the half. Ongoing pressure from all allowed us to keep the goals coming, and a fine ‘tipped on to the Barr save’ from keeper Matty Wilby kept our comfortable lead going. More bad luck was to follow when with 15 minutes to go Shaun McBride suffered a nasty twist to his groin and meant he could not take any further part. Binley did manage a consolation goal when they found a way through out defence to slot home from about 5 yards out. Goals came from: Jack Farrant, Jamie Huddlestone, Alex Linnell (2), (o.g.) |

Christ the King 3 Brinklow 3 What a game! Played in the right spirit by 2 quality sides. First half we played our socks off, passing, movement, work rate were all excellent & but for some quality defending by CTK & a wonderful point blank save by their keeper we would have gone into the break by more than the single goal. Into the second half & more of the same, Spence was all over the midfield & we were flying. 2-0 before CTK got a goal back to make it 2-1 & then an outstanding 1-1 save by Matty & distribution which eventually found it's way to Jake who smashed the ball into the back of the net from 25yrds out. It was at this stage that a couple of knocks & our long injury list began to take it's toll. Credit to CTK, a determination to get back into the match resulted in them deservedly drawing level & we were hanging on a bit at the end. Fortunately we could relie on players like Jack to drop back into midfield & do a job when needed. Loosing a 3-1 lead is probably a bit disappointing but considering the injury list we had last Sunday meant we could only field 9 players this match has to be seen as a real plus. No one could have expected a performance like this & the attitude of the players has to be applauded. Well done, 2 points clear at the top but lots of work still to do.

Cov Sector 0 Brinklow 2 The win we were after & our first clean sheet of the season against 4th in the league but I have to say we were shocking first half. Energy levels were very low & we seemed to be trying to sit on a 1 nil lead. 2nd half was an improvement after some 'Words' of encouragement from the management team but we still never really got going. We will need to raise our game in the return fixture next week to have any chance of the 1st/2nd position I know we deserve. last game of the season lads - COME ON, I KNOW WE CAN DO IT!! |

I totally agree what both of you said but at the end of the day three points is three points. It doesn't matter how you got them least we grabbed them, but we do have to play to the top of our ability to beat these next week because they will be coming to the revel with nothing to lose, but we have; we have the league to lose , so lets hope that ctk lose and we win and the league is ours. |

CTK's wins in their final 2 games mean that the league is beyond us, however a win in our final game will mean we are guaranteed runners up spot & just a point behind the winners of the league which would be a tremendous acheivement. We need to turn up focused & ready to play on Sunday. COME ON LADS!! For anyone who hasn't a game we would love for you to come & support - KO is 11am on Sunday at the Revel.

Brinklow 7 Cov Sector 5 A win was needed to confirm the team as runners up in the league & a win is what we got, but what a bizarre game!! 4-0 up at half time & playing well, I think everyone thought the game was nearly in the bag. Sector played some attractive football but weren't able to cope with our direct style of play. Pace & power up front & a solid defensive performance as a team (well for most of the game anyway!) were the key to the win today. 2nd half Sector kept the ball extremely well from the off but more of the same from Brinklow meant we surged into a 7-1 lead. It was at this stage that the wheels came off, 11 minutes left & sector bagged a 2nd which seemed to spur then on. No real response from Brinklow was forthcoming until Sector had bagged 3 more & made the last couple of minutes a very twitchy period (imagine explaining to Bolty that we had let slip a 6 goal lead in less than 15 minutes!!). Congratulations to the team on the seasons performance & our runners up spot, 1 point behind the eventual winners is a position of which we can be proud. We can look back on some missed opportunities (losing a 4-2 lead to London Road early in the season & more recently losing a 3-1 lead to the eventual winners when we were playing out of our skin) but the main thing is that we got something out of a season. A runners up spot was richly deserved. ****WELL DONE LADS**** |
