U13s Girls 1 Alcester 0 This can only have been described as a proper cup tie. On a windy morning at Wolston it was apparent, from the start, the girls were hungry to beat the team that they'd played twice before in the league and drawn both times 0-0. Neither team wanted to go to extra time and penalties. We had many, many chances in the first half but just couldn't get the ball in the net until a tremendous cross for Adey Thandy was tapped in by Shelbie Baskerville. So 1-0 at half time. We were playing into the wind during the second half which didn't seem to affect us except Alice's goal kicks couldn't go as far as normal! I am going to give special mention everyone who played today: Alice Clarke - a courageous Captain's performance in goale who kept us in the match as the pressure was piled on to us towards the end of the match. Very, very brave saves. Bex Wilby - fantastic Vice Captain's performance and held the defence together as she does during every match she plays for us. Megan Bradley - brave defending once more, unflappable under pressure and absolutely solid at the back with Bex. Adey Thandy - what a great find this player is. Plays right midfield, has no fear and today got passed virtually everyone she came up against. Chelsea Smith - centre midfield who never gives up. The smallest player of the team who was not phased at all by the size of the opposition she came up against today. Harriet "Hazza" Lowe - moved from defence to be left midfield and what a game. She battled and battled and held the midfield together really well when the pressure was piled on us towards the end. Shelbie Baskerville - top striker! Was there everytime the midfielders got the ball up front and was rewarded with the only goal of the game Bethany "Boots" Morrison - ran her heart out in the first half playing left midfield and did not give up at all. Lauren Phillips - well played up front when she came on as sub. Again, battled for everything that the midfielders got to her. Sophie May - solid up front when she came on as sub and helped support the midfield who'd gone deeper and deeper in an effort to maintain our 1-0 lead. This team were, once again, a credit to themselves, their parents, supporters and Brinklow FC today. Thanks to Peter Day for ref duties today and to parents and supporters who helped with goals, running the line and encouraging both sides. Referee's player of the match given to Chelsea Smith. Manager's player of the match awarded to the whole team for an outstanding and courageous performance. They really do deserve to be in the second round of this cup and they should be very proud of themselves - I know I am. |

Alice, Can I just echo your words.... Trust me.life is hectic enough anyway, but without the support of parents, grandmothers, and everyone connected with the club,i.e. the simple task of driving to training, and the match days... may seem such a trivial task, but it needs such a time commitment from all involved. Add to this the task of managing / the tactics / the training / the form filling !!. We have only been with the club for a year, but have met such committed people such as Liz and Martin. They are both a credit to the club and also to you (their kids... well Liz's - you know what I mean !!). If the world was full of people like them, we would have nothing to worry about. We all do it for you, and as you proved on Saturday... you all do your talking (or is it nattering ?... he he) on the pitch. Keep on being a great captain... and Bring on the next round !!!!!!. If we win the cup.. it's a day out on me !! |

Brinklow 1 Admirals 6 Today saw the eagerly awaited top of the table clash against Admirals at home - only 3 points between us and a win would have made us joint top with them. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be. We did take the lead in the first half with a great goal from Adey Thandy. However, Admirals equalised and then took the lead. These were two really soft goals and on another day we wouldn't have let this happen. We were by far the better team in the first half and it looked like it was going to be a very close result. The defence and midfield holding strong and we should have scored 2 or 3 goals but yet again, we just couldn't finish. A change round of personnel in the second half didn't quite work and our heads went down when 4 more goals went in soft goals again as we crumbled. We had just run out of steam and the great passing between the Admirals players just caused us problem after problem. Alice Clarke performed well in goal, saving shots at her if her life was depending on it in the second half. Harriet Lowe had an outstanding performance in midfield. So we were brought back down to earth with a bump today after the highs of last week and the girls must learn and move on from this. Oh well, that's football. This was the last match that I will be using the whole squad and the rotation of subs will start after the half term break. No match next Saturday as it's half term but we should be playing a re-arranged fixture against Alcester away on the 16th February. Thanks to Gordon Betts for referee duties today and I appreciated his kind words and advice at the end. Manager's Player of the Match awarded to Alice Clarke and the Referee's Player of the Match went to Adey Thandy. |

Brinklow 0 Admirals 5 Another top of the table clash and again, we weren't able to get the ball in the back of the net. With 5 minutes to go until half time it was 0-0 and, then 2 soft goals went in and our heads went down. Georgia Anderson had a great first half performance in midfield which had to be halted due to a knee injury. We were unlucky with injuries today - Chelsea Smith's knee causing problems and Adey Thandy's contact lens problem. Admirals scored a couple of good goals in the second half which Alice couldn't get to. Alice Clarke did play very bravely in goal today - she too got hurt during one of her saves. The defenders of Bex Wilby and Megan Bradley gave great performances as usual! Great performances from all the subs today who came on to assist when the midfield were hampered with injuries. Particular mention to Bethany "Boots" Morrison for a star performance. We must learn from this match today. We need to look up and pass the ball more rather than just kicking it wildly away. However, it's pleasing to see that our fitness levels are getting better. Referee's player of the match - Adey Thandy Manager's player of the match - Bethany Morrison That's the last match against Admirals for this season. Heads up now for our cup semi-final next Saturday vs Leamington Hibs at home. Ko 11.00 a.m - all supporters welcome |

Well, it wasn't to be – cancel the hotels. Leamington Hibs went away victorious, and deserved their 3:0 win. On a very blustery day, we won the toss, and hopes were high, with us having the wind behind us for the first half, but we just didn’t make it count, indeed it hampered us more than anything, and we went in at half time stalemate. In the second half, Leamington played the wind well, and we didn’t seem to get out of our own half, and It wasn’t long before we were 1:0 down. Our first and probably only shot towards their goal came in the middle of the second half, but was followed shortly after by their second goal, and then a fantastic 3rd goal that sealed their victory. In fairness we never got going at all, and we know we can play a lot better , but Leamington held their shape well all game, and annoyingly we never seemed to learn from our mistakes, which just gave their midfield the ball again and again. Still.. there’s always next year. We wanted to concentrate on the league anyway !. |

Mar 9th, 2008 - 7:37 PM |
Steve is so right. We never really got going at all and it was very frustrating and disappointing at times. Never mind, we did so well to get to the semi final and the girls should be proud of themselves. Referee's player of the match went to Adey Thandy. Manager's player of the match awarded to Alice Clarke. Thanks for all the support from family, friends and other club managers yesterday - it really was appreciated. Training as usual at 6.00 p.m on Tuesday night. |

Chelsea, Man United, Middlesborough and Brinklow all out of the cup this weekend! Shock results? Well maybe the first three. Realistically we have to have a full strength squad to beat Hibs. With Chelsea and Georgia struggling with injuries and one other regular first teamer unavailable things were looking a bit shaky at times. The organisation and support for this game were first class. We really look like an FA Charter Standard club. For all those who are feeling disappointed take a step back and look at where we were this time last year.Dave Anderson running the show by himself (Thanks Dave, you did very well under very difficult circumstances), a terrible home pitch, inadequate training facilities and girls losing interest. Things have improved 100% in spite of my involvement. Well done to Bex and Hazza who did a superb job on Saturday. You are both a credit to this club. |

It's great to see such a positive attitude from our girls manager & coach after such a disappointing result. I wouldn't swap all the trophies in the world for what Bex is getting out of playing football with such a great bunch of girls. Not once all season has there been the slightest disagreement between any of the players - fabulous girls coached & managed fantastically by Martin & Liz.

Westwood 0 Brinklow 0 Our first game after the Easter break and it took us a long time to get going. We were 3 squad members short which meant we only had one sub. A good team performance from all the girls today but unfortunately we didn't have many shots on goal. An injury to Adey meant a change round in positions at half time. Very brave goalkeeping from Alice kept us in the game - it's miracle she doesn't have a black eye. Training at Wolston on Weds night from 6.30-7.30. |

Brinklow 3 Westwood 0 A tremendous team performance against a Westwood team who have vastly improved. The first half saw some great football with our left footed demon Georgia Anderson playing like her life depended on it and just not being able to get the ball in the back of the netce. However, her time came and a great goal it was on her right foot! So 1-0 at half time. The second half saw us with the wind in our favour and we took good advantage of it. Alice Clarke nearly scored from a goal kick and Chelsea Smith was causing the opposition all kinds of problems with her speed and her brilliant tricks. The ball was hardly out of our half and Bethany "Boots" Morrison was well rewarded with her first goal for the team after her continued battling. Adey Thandey then scored our third goal from the right side of the box - a brilliantly taken goal. Her Dad has promised her a new pair of boots if she scores a hatrick and she was determined to try and get two more!! Solid defending once again from Bex Wilby and Harriet Lowe, then Megan Bradley. It was so good to see some great passing and moving around the pitch, things we've been working on in training and Chelsea Smith's corner taking is a joy to behold. Fantastic and well deserved performance today. Referee's player of the match awarded to Bex Wilby. Manager's player of the match - the whole team. So I get to look after the "Brinklow Boy" this week!!! And we're still second in the league. |

League Cup Semi Final Replay Brinklow 3 Leamington Hibs 1 What can I say? They're unstoppable!! I am so proud of each and every member of the squad today. They played their hearts out in the heat and were never going to lose this match. A fantastic goal from Georgia Anderson's left foot in the first half and another one from Adey "Torres" Thandy gave us a 2-0 lead at half time. The second half saw us with the wind against us but it didn't deter us and a brilliant goal from Bethany "Boots" Morrison really sealed the tie. A consolation goal from Leamington Hibs later in the second half. We just never gave up today even when it was obvious we were going to win it. I was definitely more emotional than the girls at the end of it and really appreciated their cuddles! Thanks to everyone for their help, support and encouragement with what could have been such a difficult morning. Cup final is 17th May at Hawksmill so will let everyone have the details when I have them. Please come and support....!! YELLOW AND BLUE ARMY.......... |
