Brinklow U11 1 Coundon Cockerels 1

Considering no friendlies pre season (it just wouldn't happen) and a cancelled first week's fixture the whole team played exceptionally well together and were very unlucky to go a goal behind early in the second half. No heads went down and Brinklow deservedly equalised through Ryan Payne a few minutes later. Many more chances in the last ten minutes but none taken. Player of the Day was Callum Thorn

Binley Woods 0 Brinklow 1
A fantastic first half with many chances for Brinklow and only a very solid Binley Woods defence prevented a hat full of goals. The second half was much more even and the game's only goal came in bizarre fashion. A great penalty save from the BW goalie resulted in huge celebration from BW but in the excitement the ball became loose with Ryan Payne pouncing and slotting the ball home. A nervous finish followed but Brinklow held on. PotD was George Lowe.

Chapelfield Colts 3 Brinklow U11 0
A dark and dreary evening saw a Brinklow team turn up without their usual bite and determination. A 1-0 deficit at half time turned into a 3-0 defeat with a stunning free kick and a penalty taken in poor light which Daniella could hardly have seen let alone stop. Player of the match was Chloe - well done. Was it just coincidental that Brinklow's first defeat of the season came on a night that their second string referee was on the pitch?

Hawkes Mill 2 Brinklow U11 2
A glorious sunny September morning saw the points shared in an eventful match. Twice Brinklow, who showed more grit than they did on Friday night, came from behind to level. A painful injury to Griff, who is now top of the crocks list this season, necessitated a reshuffle in the defence and were unprepared for the first goal a minute later. Ben scored a penalty early in the second half to deservedly equalise. A quite bizarre decision by the referee not to stop play with a Brinklow player down in the box allowed Hawkes Mill to take the lead for the second time. An intelligent pass across the six yard area by Will enabled Ryan to score a well taken goal with only two minutes to go. Player of the match went to Daniel.

Ernesford Dynamos 2 Brinklow U11 3
What a team performance! Full of determination and good passing. Deservedly two goals up at half time through Ryan and Will Brinklow looked to add to their lead. It was against the run of play that Ernesford levelled with ten minutes remaining. It was a delight to watch the team regroup to score a winner through Ryan with five minutes to go. The team stiffled the majority of the Ernesford attempts and denied their key player from scoring, having put away 15 goals in the 4 previous games. Players of the day were Ryan and George. There is no truth in the rumour that Frank has agreed to buy the whole team a pair of yellow boots like Ryan's. Well done Ryan and George.
It was sad to see Sean knock his knee again but I'm sure that he will be back very soon. Best wishes also to Arran who is currently suffering from Shingles as well as a pulled hamstring

Brinklow U11 5 Leamington Hibs 0
Fantastic birthday present for the young, sprightly Frank (guesses as to which birthday on a postcard to ...). Committed and enthusiastic right from the off with 2 goals from Ryan in the first ten minutes. The first goal was awarded to Ryan rather than to Will after slow motion replays showed that the ball was on the line, rather than fully over, as Ryan made contact. Three more goals (two from Will and one from new boy Jordan) in the second half saw a fairly demoralised Leamington at the end of the match. Jordan's strike from 40 yards (well twenty really) was a dream. Player of the match was awarded to Kieran

Re: Brinklow FC Under 11s 2007/08

U11 3 Alvis 0
Glorious sunshine broke through the fog to reveal a pitch that had been occupied by a few thousand geese obviously frightened by last nights fireworks. Frank organised a collection party and having filled two large buckets with all the nutrious droppings was seen trying to broker a deal with the opposition to boost club funds.
Alvis, prior to this game, were sitting proud at the top of the table but were clearly rattled by an exceptionally determined and fierce Brinklow team. All three goals were scored by sheer determination not to give in. The first was created by Will who chased what seemed a lost cause to cross for Ryan to tap home from a yard out. The second was scored by Will who just beat the goalie to the ball to slot home from a tight angle. The third and final goal was converted by Callum who pounced on a mistake from the goalkeeper. Before, in between and after these goals the entire team played with a passion that unnerves the opposition. PotM was awarded to Robert.
The coaching team have been boosted by the news that Roger will be offering shooting training whilst Dave P is to concentrate on fitness (particularly for the referee)

Re: Brinklow FC Under 11s 2007/08

Pro Santos 3 Brinklow U11 5
Pre- match entertainment was provided by the Brinklow parents and supporters who showed their eagerness to clear one of the goal areas of fallen leaves by dragging the offending items to one side of the goal net only to watch in dismay as several gusts of wind blew the leaves to their original position. A suggestion was made to appoint a wind monitor for the next time.
A win was ground out but it really appeared to be hard work especially in the first half. Another goal from Ryan from about a foot was cancelled out by a crisp strike from Pro Santos. It would have been worse had it not been for two wonderful saves from Daniella to ensure the teams were level at half time. A good old fashioned team talk from the two deputy managers appeared to have the desired effect as Brinklow fairly raced into a 4:1 lead with goals from Callum (2) and Kieran. However the entertainment wasn't complete as Pro Santos rallied to score two more before the final whistle with poacher Ryan once again scoring from within the six yard area. I was informed (several times by Ryan) that this takes his tally for the season into double figures and apparently (from many other sources) that all have come from within the six yard area and most from within a foot or two. PofD was awarded to Sean.
Thoughts now turn to next weeks match at the Revel against top of the league Athletic United, a brand new kit and all those geese. Volunteers with wellies and shovels are welcome.

Re: Brinklow FC Under 11s 2007/08

Brinklow 3 Athletic 4
What a beautiful morning - perfect weather for geese. Frank wisely postponed the photo shoot with the lads and girls in their new kit kindly supplied by Mark and Rucky from the Bull's Head Public House (a traditional country pub with en suite bedrooms and delicious food). There were a few disappointed faces from certain players having spent hours in front of the mirror preening themselves (and the girls were upset as well) but the decision was proved to be the correct one as all were thoroughly soaked and frozen at the end of the match.
Athletic were top of the league and their neat passing game showed why. An fairly early goal was soon wiped out by the one and only Ryan who yet again, after good work from Will, converted from six inches - almost a long ranch shot by his standards. A dodgy decision by Brinklow's third choice ref (got this in before Dave could) allowed Athletic to retake the lead not long before half time. The second half started badly with a goal after 20 seconds for Athletic and another a couple of minutes later. 4- 1 down, with some very cold players , could have seen a landslide but no Brinklow just got stuck in and played some excellent football pulling two goals back through Will and a well taken own goal. A fantastic finish with many more chances, with very few from Athletic, was unfortunately not quite enough. The determination and sheer want to win was fantastic to see and you all deserve a huge pat on the back. Rightly so PotD went to the whole team.

Fantastic first 10 minutes with 2 goals from Sean and then the remaining 50 minutes were not so fantastic. PotM was Sean. We all hope that the team of the first ten minutes, that had composure and good passing ability, turn up next week.

Brinklow 2 Leamington Brakes 4
Two fairly soft goals in the first half were cancelled by a determined spell early in the second period with a well taken own goal and a calm finish by Will. However once the team had got themselves back into the game and had the upper hand Leamington scored again to take the wind out of our sales. A late goal sealed the points for Leamington. You can all play football so lets go out in the next match and show what you can do. Well done to George for PotM.
A special big thank you to the Leamington linesman who provided so much entertainment in demonstrating his extraordinary knowledge of the offside rule - infact he was seen to raise his flag for a second as his own player scored in his own net - bizarre

Re: Brinklow FC Under 11s 2007/08

Brinklow 1 Ernesford 3
The match was switched to Barr Lane for todays game. With no matches at the Revel for some considerable time it has been suggested that we meet some two hours before kick off armed with several large buckets and spades. Frank says that he has several that he can bring from his last holiday.
The score line was a little unfair and the lads and lasses certainly deserved at lease a draw against a team riding very high in the league. The determination was clear for all to see, the composure was greatly improved and the passing was far more plentiful and accurate. In fact we were a team today and if we continue with this approach and learn what worked well and what didn't we have a bright future.
The only goal in the first half was a long range shot from Ernesford that swirled in the wind and landed high in the net. Brinklow had many chances but they just wouldn't fall right. Jordan made an excellent challenge to thwart an attack but unfortunately came off worse and had to leave the field.
The second half couldn't have started any worse with a goal for Ernesford within 30 seconds but this just seemed to spur the team on and deservedly pulled a goal back with a few minutes to go. Real determination from Will on the byline and a pull back to Callum who finished coolly. Looking for an equaliser Brinklow pushed forward and a counter attack saw Ernesford score a very late third.
I'm not sure who got PotM but well done to all.

Re: Brinklow FC Under 11s 2007/08

Alvis 4 Brinklow 3
A really enjoyable game to watch apart from the first three minutes and two unfortunate goals for Alvis. For the rest of the match Brinklow played plenty of neat passing football with an increased awareness of where their team mates were together with an abundance of composure. An excellent cross from Ryan was met with an equally impressive header from Callum to reduce the deficit before half time. Callum halted his goal celebration to make sure that his hair hadn't lost any of its spikeness. There were many more chances before the break but the ball just wouldn't go in the net.
A bright start to the second half was to bring many more chances for Brinklow but again so near yet so far. Alvis scored their third from a corner against the run of play. Fayez, on his debut, scored from a quick burst and a wonderful strike. Alvis once again netted from a corner before Ben thumped home from 20 yards.
So near yet so far today but we were a little unlucky to lose after playing so well. An excellent debut from Fayez thoroughly deserved the PotM award

Brinklow 1 PSA Peugeot Citroen 1
An amazing contrast to the last match against Pro Santos (unfortunately no report for that match as the reporter was suffering from man flu - no comments please). This evening the entire team was fired up right from the first whistle and competed with vigor and didn't allow Peugeot to settle at all. Wonderful to watch and I'm sure that you all enjoyed playing this way.
A goaless first half although Brinklow did have the ball in the net twice but were both ruled out for offside. The second half was a repeat of the first half and it was against the run of play that Peugeot took the lead through a scrappy goal. However the team didn't let their heads go down at all and the equaliser came with about ten minutes remaining when Fayez chased what looked like a dead cause to whip in a fantastic ball over the keeper for Will to finish from close range. The game wasn't over and there was time for Brinklow to score another offside goal, hit the post once and the crossbar twice (unlucky Griff and Ben).
Strikers and Midfield players please don't forget to hand your 50 lines (I must not stray offside when I'm easily fast enough to give the defender 2 or 3 yards and still beat him to the ball) into Frank tomorrow.
It was difficult to pick out PotM as all gave 100% but Griff edged it through his excellent tackling and fine passes forward.
All the parents and coaches want to see the same passionate team tomorrow and hopefully there will be three point this time.

Re: Brinklow FC Under 11s 2007/08

Brinklow 2 GNP Sports 6
As the cliche goes - a game of two halves. Absolutely fantastic for 30 minutes with all the team showing determination, oozing with confidence and an abundance of skill. Once again the opposition took the lead against the run of play and once again Brinklow rallied with an equaliser from Will after an excellent through ball from Callum (I would say that wouldn't I?). PotM from last week scored a cracking goal from outside the box to give Brinklow a deserved lead. I'm not sure but I think it was with his weaker right foot. There were plenty more chances before the break but non taken. GNP thought that they had equalised but the ref thought that the striker was a little too physical sending Kieran to the ground.
The second half saw less determination and committment allowing GNP to score a few goals in a relatively short period of time. One of the GNP players was extremely strong (and mostly fair), quick with a good eye for goal and would have been a handful for most teams.
Don't let your heads go down as you all showed that you are an excellent team when you are up for it. The first half was probably the best 30 minutes of football that I've seen from you all season. Remember how pleasing this felt and go for it again on Sunday.
PotM deservedly went to Sean in goal who is growing with confidence and ability.

Re: Brinklow FC Under 11s 2007/08

PSA Peugeot Citroen 1 Brinklow 3
A nervous start to the match from both sides on a large pitch that provided plenty of space which was largely ignored with hit and hope football. Brinklow opened the scoring when a long through ball (Wimbledon at their best) from Daniel found Will who cleverly lobbed the keeper. Peugeot equalised when unfortunately Kieran tripped on the the very uneven surface having put in a tremendous effort to chase down the striker who then under no pressure slotted into the corner.
The second half provided a far higher quality of football with two further goals from Brinklow. Fayez, who was a menace for most of the match, showed tremendous speed and agility to get in behind the defence taking the ball to the bye-line before crossing the ball onto a defenders leg and into the net. Ben rounded off the scoring with a well struck shot. The defence held out well and Sean wasn't really troubled in goal. PotD went to the whole team.
If you believe in yourselves and play with composure, as you did in the second half, you will win many more games before the season is over.

Re: Brinklow FC Under 11s 2007/08

Leamington Hibs 2 Brinklow 2
After last weeks match on a huge pitch this game was played on a pitch at the other end of the scale and I'm sure that the team have played on 7-aside pitches almost as big. Brinklow again conceeded two early goals from close range with the strong wind playing a part and in fact could have been further behind when a corner hit the bar directly and another was tipped onto the post. After the shaky start Brinklow gradually took control and were unlucky to be still two goals down at the break.
The second half was far more promising with some more controlled and composed football on a pitch that was extremely crowded and not condusive to a high quality game. George scored a very well taken penalty quickly followed by a goal to remember from goalie Sean who fairly launched the ball out of his hands and into the back of the net ala Steve Ogrizovic (in Coventry's 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday on October 12th 1986). For a while there was some debate as to whether George had touched the ball before it crossed the line but the in goal camera was ideally placed to show that contact was made after the line. There was to be even more drama as Brinklow had the ball in the net for only for the referee to disallow the goal as he deemed that the ball failed to touch a player from Kieran's indirect free kick. When asked if he kicked the ball Will said no but was later to admit that it had touched his knee - technically Will was correct - it wasn't a kick.
Great to see such determination after going two behind - a few weeks ago this fight back may not have happened. PotD went to Sean Oggy Dowsing for his moment to cherish

Re: Brinklow FC Under 11s 2007/08

Brinklow 3 Christ the King 2
Some excellent football today lads - well done. Once again against the run of play Brinklow went behind but once again showed resilience to equalise from some real good team play with five players involved in a move with fine passing and an equally fine finish from Ryan. 1-1 at half time.
Ben made it 2-1 again after a flowing move before CTK equalised with a crisp shot into the far corner. Some simple passing football and a cool finish from Will ensured all three points.
Sean has only been playing in goal for a few matches but is already demonstating that he has the eccentricity to reach the top. Does anyone remember that scorpion kick from the Columbian goalie, Rene Higuita, who could have caught the ball in the match against England in September 1995, but instead elected to clear it with an astonishing scorpion kick? Well that was nothing compared to Sean who towards the end of the match had the audacity to simply sit down and wait for the ball to bounce into his hands as two CTK strikers ran towards him. What style!!!!
PotM was awarded to Dan.

Leamington Brakes 3 Brinklow 2
I didn't see this match and the report is based on comments from parents and coaches and not my own observations. Played the much better football but 'aledgedly' were subjected to some of the most bizarre one sided referreeing displays that has been seen in recent times . . Ryan had the ball clearly over the line by a couple of feet only for the linesman not to have seen this and the referee disallow the goal from the halfway line - obviously in the ideal position to view the play. Decisions after decisions were made against Brinklow with some vicious play totally ignored. Lads and Chloe - this happens sometimes - just put it down to experience and don't take it personally.
On the positive side the coach was delighted with the football on display from the blue and yellows. Callum scored the two goals with some determined play.

Re: Brinklow FC Under 11s 2007/08

Brinklow 3 Hawksmill 2
The football is getting better and better with the team working as a unit for much of the match. The hard ground and route one football (remember Wimbledon of the 1980's) caught the defence out with the ball bouncing over the top and falling nicely for the striker to slot home a well hit shot. Will coolly finished after a delightful through ball from Dan. Shortly afterwards Brinklow were behind again after another up and under got behind the back four. 2:1 at halftime.
After an agreed drinks break midway through the second half the team really came to life when a long kick from Sean found Will who suberbly finished for his second of the day. The winner was a bit special from Callum (yes I know I'm biased) with a stunning strike from well outside the box.
A brilliant game to watch with some excellent periods of controlled football. All played well today but a special mention to Jordan and Griff, who are showing more composure and are now taking a touch to control the ball before releasing it down the line to the wingers, Fayez, who is a real wizard down the left wing and extremely difficult to control and Will, who just plays well all the time. A special, special mention to Chloe, who never gave in and chased everything and showed strength to hold the ball up on many occassions and thoroughly deserved the PotD award

Brinklow 4 Binley Woods 1
Another impressive game with neat passing football. Goals from Fayez, Will and two long range efforts from Ryan, you won't catch me offside, Payne. One of the goals was as far out as the six yard box. A near disaster in the second half when Chloe fell backwards when taking a corner - 'it's alright' she said 'it's not my nails I've just bent my finger back.' PotD was awarded to Callum

Re: Brinklow FC Under 11s 2007/08

Coundon Cockerels 4 Brinklow 2
Excellent goalkeeping by Sean kept the score goalless at half time despite some attrocious follow throughs on him by one particular player. Callum experienced a totally uncalled for kick to the upper leg off the ball just before the break that he nearly retalliated for but kept a cool head to walk away. His father was pleased to see that he didn't try any of his recently aquired kick boxing skills.
It would be nice to feel that referees applied some common sense to protect the players from obvious dangerous play.
A fiesty start to the second half saw Coundon take the lead only for Will to score shortly afterwards. Coundon regained the lead and heads went down with another two following in close succession. A strong finish and a second well taken goal from Will was too late to get anything from the game. Some strong performances today with Will being awarded the PotM for his two goals and determination throughout the whole of the game .
Best wishes go to the opposing team's manager for his exceptional offside knowledge together with his social and motivational skills
This report was brought to you from that well known 'wally' of a linesman.

Re: Brinklow FC Under 11s 2007/08

Firefighters 3 Brinklow 9 (nine)
What an exceptional display of team football. On the hottest day of the year so far the last thing you want is to play with only ten players, a replacement goalie and concede two very early goals. However once the team were familiar with the 3 4 2 formation they never looked back and fairly destroyed the opposition with an amazing display of both individual skill and team work. Looking back it is hard to believe that the team were 3 - 2 down at half-time.
Fayez was almost unstoppable on the left wing and scored four almost identical goals and created a couple more. At half time Firefighters decided to put two players on him but it didn't make any difference apart from providing more space for the equally fast Will to score twice and Ben who scored a fine hat trick including one of the best miss hits of the season. Ryan had probably his best game of the season but unfortunately this time no goals.
Dan made some great saves in the second half whilst both Griff and Jordan were very strong as full backs. Kieran had a fine game as a lone centre back and gelled really well with Callum at defensive mid, who showed great strength and swept up virtually everything that came through the middle. George was his usual determined and energetic self and just never stopped running.
This is what you can achieve when you work as a team and believe in yourself. One game left this season - more of the same please.
Frank wished all the players good luck in their SATS this week and was heard to boast how good he was at simple arithmetic
