Ship's History
John Bassolino has passed along a link to the history of USS Benjamin Stoddert. The address is http://www.history.navy.mil/danfs/b5/benjamin_stoddert.htm. It's interesting reading and covers basic events through her whole career. However, Herm Chambers has pointed out that there are many factual errors in this history.... Dick Kint is credited with being our first Skipper, when that title really belongs to Walter Meginnis! If anyone can spot any other errors, please post them here. If anyone can fill in gaps, or add detail, please post it here. If anyone has a good Sea Story to go along with these events (if I'm in it, the story will be denied), please post it here! |

I do not know if it is just me and my lack of computer knowledge, but I have not been able to access this web-site. I have tried to copy and paste, and type the address in the address bar. Maybe someone has an answer? Thanks, Leo |

Leo, I just tried cutting and pasting the address, and it does work. Maybe you're leaving the "period" after "htm". It should not be there. I hope this solves your problem. Lou |

Thanks Lou. Leaving the period off the end made the difference. |

Why the "TONKIN GULF 05/72" after CDR. Taylor's name? He left the ship in "69", I beleive. THANKS, "IRISH" |

I JOINED THE ASSOCIATION EARLIER THIS MONTH I DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES BEFORE NEW MEMBERSHIP IS POSTED, I BELIEVE HERM IS TAKING CARE OF THAT. ANYWAY I'M PROUD AND HAPPY TO BELONG... PC |
