Wladimir Klitschko

I watched the Klitschko/Thompson fight earlier today and I'm wondering if it's just me or do others believe Klitschko is an extremely dull fighter to watch.

With his European style of holding his left out there like a spear and his lack of good, fast combination punching, his fights are like watching paint dry. He could have had Thompson out of there much earlier than the 11th round if he'd just applied himself because he certainly has the size and power to do so.

I think his losses to Ross Purity and Corrie Sanders, two fighters that he should have beaten fairly easily, have left a long term mark on his psyche.

Man, this is when I realize how much I miss the likes of Mike Tyson and his all-out attack------but not the man himself.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko

Boring! Boring! Boring!
The heavyweight division ain't what it used to be. I'm almost wishing David Haye can live up to his own hype and make it lively again.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko

There was no ear bitten off so you think it wasn't exciting? Both fighters gave it their all and each have different training methods and skills. Wladimir Klitscho will go down in history as a great fighter if not the greatest and has proven himself time and time again. If you think that fight was boring, you must have done and seen it all. He did knock out his opponent. With each fight, Wladimir Klitschko establishes himself as unbeatable and the rightful owner of the title of Heavyweight Champion of the World.

Re: Re: Wladimir Klitschko

You are certainly entitled to your opinion which is obviously very pro-Wladimir Klitschko, but I find it hard to make a case of either Klitschko to go down in boxing history as great if not the greatest.

That is LUDICROUS to say the least! (Please say you were kidding!)

Ali, Frazier, Foreman in their prime would have put either brother out to pasture for sure.

They are slow, robotical, safe fighters who have come along at a time when the division is at one of its weakest points. Simply put, they lack FIRE and HUNGER! Let's not go into style and real skills...

I beg to disagree further when you say that with each fight Wladimir establishes himself as unbeatable? Huh You've got to be kidding me...

If anything is true it is the fact that with each fight he proves that he is one lucky son of a gun, beatable as hell...

Re: Wladimir Klitschko

Well, if you read the last part of the last line of my post, you'd see I don't really like Tyson as a person. Yes, he was, at times, a very dirty fighter, especially near the end of his career when the losses were coming more frequently than the wins. I was referring to the way he sought out and destroyed many of his opponents with crisp, hard, accurate combinations.

For you to imply that Klitschko will likely go down as the greatest heavyweight in history is simply amazing to me. Again, like I mentioned in my post, his losses to Purity and Sanders, two guys who are hardly top opposition but managed to KO Klitschko made him look more like a pretender than a contender. He's come along when the heavyweight division is pretty weak in top flight fighters. Why do you think guys like Evander Holyfield and James Toney are still trying to campaign in the heavyweight division-----they sense weakness.

From the fights I've seen, WK doesn't like hard pressure and he seems to fold his tent when pressed hard. I just wish he would have had to fight the likes of a Lennox Lewis, young Mike Tyson, anytime Ali or Joe Frazier or even a dead Rocky Marciano. He may have had a chance against Rocky.

But, this is just my opinion and you're entitled to yours.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko

Your list of top opposition could have been
measured and YES-defeated by WK( including Leon Spinx, Foreman and Holmes) just as he is doing to each fighter that wants to fight him so badly now. The jab is effective or it would not be used and trained by one of the World's best boxing coaches, and is always critisized as 'not exciting' as it was even with Mr. Lenox Lewis's reign. WK is mixing up his punches, especially with his right in the latest Victory knock-out. His maturity since his losses is evident and realistically, looking at that footage and looking at his fights current, it is apparent that WK has not only physically improved but his confidence, balance & boxing psychological tactics & saavy has enabled him to have a 90% knockout rate. The next contenders will each meet with the same conclusion-Dr Steelhammer's strength, stamina, intelligence and determination to improve himself as a Heavyweight boxer will leave them in Loserville. There was blood, sweat and tears and there was a good clean fight. The measure of success is not how fast you can knock someone out, but rising above your losses and continuing to dominate. "A fast knockout"--to me just means that that jazzbo should not have been in the ring in the first place and a waste of an expensive ticket. Ding Ding Wladimir Klitschko is Boxing's Ring King.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko

Well, if nothing else, you're consistent in your belief, however misguided I feel it is, to champion the cause of Wladimir Klitschko. Like I said in my last post, you are entitled to your opinion-----------I certainly don't share it.

To tell the truth, I've heard WK's corner, meaning Manny Stewart, practically begging WK to do more in his fights. His handlers see it, boxing commentators see it, most knowledgeable fight fans see it, but I can only assume you're looking at him through rose colored glasses and fail to see his shortcomings. Not to worry, a worthy opponent will likely come along in the near future and show you the way.
