Margarito wins!

Who wins from this fight? Margarito and Cintron! As you wrote, his only 2 professional losses came at the hands of Margarito. When he lost...it was that he simply wasn't the fighter everyone thought he was. It wasn't "WOW"...Margarito is a beast. It should have been! But now, after he took the will of the guy who most "experts" were calling one of the top 3 p4p fighters in the world...we may want to re-examine Kermit Cintron. Not from the sense of whether he matches up with Margarito or not...we've seen that one twice. While I'm sure Cintron would take the challenge...all I'm saying is this. Without the 2 losses to Margarito, he's undefeated and with a lot of KO's!

Margarito is clearly the #1 welterweight. After that...it's really a toss-up. Cotto would still be sitting close, as is Cintron, Williams and many others. Looks to me that the welterweight division is still looking pretty strong...even with PBF!

Re: Margarito wins!

Who wins from this fight? Margarito, who else. You mention Cintron like he belongs in this equation, but in my opinion, he is now an afterthought with his two early losses to Margarito by stoppage. I doubt Cintron would match up well against Cotto, so that places Cintron in the dubious place of also-ran.

Sure, Cintron would like to face Margarito again if the price were right, but what does it gain Margarito to visit a place where he reigns supreme.

You wrote, "All I'm saying is this. Without the 2 losses to Margarito, he's undefeated and with a lot of KO's." All the KO's and wins in the world don't mean squat if you can't win the big one when it really counts.

The only part of your post that I kind of agree with is the last paragraph. Margarito is #1.

Re: Margarito wins!

The title is about tony making people tell the truth about themselves. I think its a good read. he was just saying that cintron is strong and in his prime and so is clottey and williams. but cotto fought judah and mosley and even though he looked decent he didnt fight them in their prime. how do you think cotto recovers from this?

Re: Margarito wins!

Well Mike, I've only had the opportunity to read about the fight and I did view the live update on the ESPN boxing site that gave a lot of blow-by-blow posts from the arena during the fight.

From what I've read, it seems Cotto was in control early but once he was pressed hard and in every round by Margarito, the pressure took its toll and Cotto couldn't hold off the bigger man. And from everything I've seen and heard, Cotto was a very beaten fighter by the time it was stopped.

I can't wait to see the taped delay broadcast of this fight to see for myself just how dominating Margarito's performance was towards the end of the fight.

In my opinion, Cotto's between a bit of a rock and a hard place because he was getting physically depleted when trying to make the 140 class he used to campaign in. He was getting rocked by lesser fighters even though he did eventually win his fights. He looked stronger and more durable at 147, but at 5'7' tall, it's unlikely he can go up in weight and be able to take on the bigger hitters.

Cotto's still a young man at 27 and this is his only loss but the only title out there worth trying to grab is the WBO title and that one belongs to Paul Williams. If that fight can be made and he wins that belt, does he fight Margarito again to try to unify the division----I don't think he really wants to go there again.

Now, if Margarito moves up in weight and vacates the welterweight title and the 3 belts he owns leaving them up for grabs, that could be like a whole new career for Cotto and the rest of the top guys at welter. But I don't really see that happening even though Margarito has fought in the mid 150 lb. range several times in his career. At age 30 with 3 belts, I feel he will make as much money as he can and retire a wealthy young man.

Re: Margarito wins!

MikeLove, to answer your post, and in my modest opinion, I honestly don't see Cotto bouncing back from such a devastating beatdown...
I saw the fight, taped it, watched it again and again, 3 times total, and I am still in awe of what Margarito brought to the table last Saturday. His will was unbreakable, he whooped Cotto physically and mentally, and that latter part he may not be able to recover from.

I think Cintron matches up well with Cotto. I truly think that is a 50/50 fight.

Re: Margarito wins!

dos x damarooby and damsville, i can't get my hands on the fight only having seen hbo's highlights before they were ripped from youtube (am i allowed to say this), but what i saw points to one helluva contest if the highlights were to be believed because there were just so many of them.

i commented on another post that margarito brought skills that so reminded me of ruben olvires, but in the end he (marg.) was just a tough guy whose will to withstand was paramount. here a guy overcame a champion, a faster champion who continually was able to land heavy shots, but that in the end these shots were taken on board and dispensed with. great contest.

where to now. if delahoya was fair dinkum he'd fight margarito immediately and cash in on the public's interest. this is the only fight for delahoya and not to take it makes a mockery of the final fight for the fans.(i still believe oscar should not fight at all) for margarito it would seem due respects for a fine career, thus leaving cotto and what to do with him?

cotto displayed wonderful skills against margarito, but was outpressured by a larger guy. with over 34 fights and just the one loss and had he survived another 2 rounds he may well have ended up winning on points. some losses can destroy fighters and the spirit of the contestant, and some forge new character; we probably will have to wait and see on miguel cotto how he and his managers handle what just happened.

damsnation damsville...3 times you saw this fight...

Will you be able to watch the fight tonight (Saturday)?

Re: Margarito wins!

Not only will I watch it, I will likely tape it so I can watch it as many times as you already have. Too bad it is coming on at the same time as the SHO boxing event with Vic Darchinyan and Kirilov. I'm pulling for the baby faced one in that fight.

Re: Margarito wins!

Well DosX, I did get to watch and tape the fight and I've seen it twice since last night. That was a good fight and a great effort from both warriors.

In my opinion, Cotto was the much better boxer with great footwork, excellent hand speed, much straighter punches on both offense and countering when he made Margarito miss. All that said, he just couldn't stop Margarito from hunting him down in about every round. That guy has a granite chin if you ask me because he took some very strong shots from Cotto, many that would have put lesser fighters down for an 8 count if not a KO. Margarito was relentless in his pursuit and from what I saw in that fight, I can't see anyone presently campaigning at welterweight staying with him.

Re: Margarito wins!

You mean to tell me you don't give Oscar a chance??

Just kidding, guys, just kidding...

On a serious note, I agree 100% with you... Right now, nobody out there takes Margarito out... And I do mean NOBODY!
