Domestic wind turbines

In his "where ignorance is bliss...." article, JEB notes the story of some engineer who has bought a domestic wind turbine and discovered that it will take nearly 3000 years for it to pay for itself. The self-styled engineer involved is John Large of Large & Associates. They're an 'independent' nuclear consultancy who mainly produce reports for Green clients like Greenpeace and Ken Livingstone. John Large is often interviewed by the BBC as a 'nuclear expert'.

I suspect he's installed a wind turbine to impress his Green clients and has then been shocked to find out that the technology is actually rubbish.

Meanwhile David Cameron has not so far installed the domestic wind turbine that he got planning permission for in Summer 2006.

He is reported as saying that he is waiting for wind technology to improve. He could be in for a long wait.

It occurs to me that there might be a market for some company to manufacture cut-price fake wind turbines for eco-poseurs. A bit like those fake burglar alarm systems that just consist of an empty burglar alarm box mounted on the wall of a house. They'd be a lot cheaper than the real thing and actually not that much different in terms of electricity generation.
