Don when I was a kid we always had a garden. Yes, mom canned everything she could. When the vegies started coming in, mom would tell my brother and I to get the jars out. That meant, 2 #3 wash tubs in the back yard washing all those jars. This is the first time in many years that we have "canned". We have for years we "frozen" everything. We have 2 side by side refrigerators and an upright freezer, all full. Thus the return to canning. Plus I love to can, brings back some wonderful memories. Maybe it's time to quit. We have 4 daughters with familys. 3 of them live close by. Number three whose husband is in the Navy stationed in Charleston, SC. Make 2 or three trips a year plus we and her sisters visit them. BTW my folks didn't have a freezer, everything was canned.
My granny House dried apples...I had forgot about those. My wife and I did try that (once) also. Didn't turn out to good. Granny made some of the best fried pies ever.
My #02 has put together recipes and shared them with is all. My contrabution, if you ever find your self nout of BBQ sause and don't want to run to the store...pour as much ketchup as you need into bowl. Slowly add pepsi untill it tastes like you want. It may work with coke....If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
