This is probably tied to the fact that the world is 5mm smaller (in diameter) than we previously thought.
I remember getting into an argument on usenet over tide levels. The other side thought I was nuts to look at the high tide and low tide variations as opposed to the mean tide variation. I can't remember what the professed increased in mean tide was, but it was well inside the precision that a person measuring could achieve. Something on the order of 2cm increase over the last 50 years or so. The last time I was at the beach, the waves were bigger than that.
I have a bad attitude. I should be visiting the lavatory more often to avoid.... cause I am so scared of the viciously increasing tide.
Oh well. More ammunition for them to put in my dossier. "Refuses to adhere to doctrine".
