The jackboot of petty authoritarianism stamps again:
About time too! Didn’t you know? There is no place for anything that gives pleasure in the modern puritanical world we live in. If someone somewhere is enjoying something then it is our duty to declare it dangerous, then ban it!
Often wonder how I, and many others others, managed to survive our childhoods
Think of what you survived.
- No child car seats.
- No Fireproof sleepware.
- No protection from cigarette smokers.
I am sure you could list more.
I think this one tops all:
"Children can't differentiate between toys and nutritional items," said Miriam Gruss, a member of the committee."
Well that seems to be the way these health and safety 'dictats' seem to be generated. A committee is appointed and personal views are turned into EC law.
Are there any statistics or learned studies to back up their arguments?
Ah! an easy one to solve, just ban Kinder Surprise from the UK shops.
Miriam Gruss is wrong! When I was a child one of my most favourite sweets was chocolate cigarettes. I love them. To date I have never felt the impulse to “eat” a cigarette (tho I did smoke one or two) .
