Here is a bit of "anecdotal" evidence. I had high cholesterol, and my doctor yammered on about how I should take statins. I looked at the possible side effects, and there was no way I was going to take that "medicine". I have enough problems with the normal aches and pains of old age as it is.
My doctor's physician's assistant said that I might try taking red yeast rice. I thought, why not, it is cheap, and started taking one capsule each day, (1,200mg). It has been about 2 1/2 years now, and my cholesterol levels have been in the normal range ever since.
Would it work for someone else? Dunno, but at less than $10 for a 6 month supply, cheap to take a shot at it. Worked for me.
