But actually an element of truth in there. It seems that when reporting the performance they neglect to mention that win turbines do in fact also consume electricity which is not accounted for.
When there is no wind they cannot be allowed to simply remain static because the main shaft will apparently sag and become permanently deformed unless the shaft is rotated.
Hence, on windless days the turbines may be seen to be turning - and using electricity. Now blade pitch is probably neutral so they probably aren't acting as fans....... but......
