Registering with DVLA

Hi, I have a number of Fiats that were purchased effectively as scrap, some came from the UK and some originally from Italy and Bulgaria, I am progressively restoring them. UK cars with papers are not a problem; however, how do I go about registering cars that were bought as scrap and then restored? Some have papers and others don't. I was told I need a customs form for the foreign cars but I have no knowledge of how they got to the UK. Any help much appreciated. Thanks, Michael.

Re: Registering with DVLA

I can only suggest you speak to a tame DVLA person, sounds like you have a minefield to cross, involving customs and the DVLA, Hope it works out,

Re: Registering with DVLA

its a NOVA, that you need to sort out, before the DVLA will issue a reg number, I think pratical classics had a item on this, with cars that have been scraped on paper, I do know of people being caught out with cars that have been traded in under the srcappage system in Italy, and the DVLA not willing to reg the car as a result, n

Re: Registering with DVLA

NOVA is not a problem with old cars if you can say where they originated.
If you cannot it might get difficult but don't say you do not know or they
may think they came from out of EU.
If they are EU manufacture & of little value you should not have a problem.
Anything which has a NOD.. notice of destruction you will not get registered
in UK or anywhere else I suspect.
Anything seized by councils, police & in scrappage schemes also doubtful
although some council removed & police seizures do get sold off.
I would suggest you are very careful how you use the words scrap or for spares.
Cars off road for years loose registrations even the old original plates get lost
& officials know that but it can make your life more difficult if you start saying scrap.
Search for NOVA on Internet. Down load the forms & guide.
Dover Customs allowed an amnesty for cars
brought into the UK in the past otherwise you should notify them within 14days.
On old vehicles they seem to use the "change of mind" date as the brought
in date.
Anything very old that has lost it's UK registration & not made in UK will
need a NOVA before DVLA will consider an age related number.
