Mifflin County-BEA final

I was not there and fully understand that the final outcome of the match was not in doubt, but why in the world did Mifflin County choose not to wrestle the last 3 weights? Seems low class at best.

Re: Mifflin County-BEA final

This is actually not uncommon. The state duals are additional matches at the end of the year, and while the competition and mat time are great, some coaches do not want to risk injury to their athletes when the match is already decided. I think this is why some teams decide not to compete at all. It’s a coaching decision, and I don’t fault it whether they choose to wrestle or forfeit out.

Re: Mifflin County-BEA final

I was wondering about that too. The MC coach rarely does anything like that. Probably saving kids for state duals and individual tourney at the end.So I can definitley agree with LH Wrestling Fan. MC did go to states I believe twice and went two and done both times.

Re: Mifflin County-BEA final

I suppose same reason that BEA forfeited to Hidlay. Was that low class?

Re: Mifflin County-BEA final

No, I don't believe that was low class at that point in the match. However, I don't think a team should ever forfeit if there is an eligible non injured wrestler available at that weight. You never know what could happen. Nothing is gained for the kids by forfeiting.

Re: Mifflin County-BEA final

Exactly. I don't see the difference though in forfeiting to Hidlay

Re: Mifflin County-BEA final

You have an extremely valid point.

"I don't think a team should ever forfeit if there is an eligible non injured wrestler available at that weight. You never know what could happen. Nothing is gained for the kids by forfeiting."

Did you see what occurred at the BEA vs. SC match?

I believe your point is very valid. It is unfortunate that coaching choosing to forfeit does not permit either wrestler to experience the true benefits of the sport.

Re: Mifflin County-BEA final

I have to say that although it is very common, I don’t agree with it either. If you have a wrestler weighed in at a spot, let him (or her) take the mat. It would be interesting if the National Federation made a rule to discourage unnecessary forfeits...maybe an extra team point if a team forfeits when there is an eligible wrestler weighed in and that kid doesn’t take the mat at all. This would definitely encourage coaches to rethink their team strategy and make them more apt to let the kids wrestle!

Re: Mifflin County-BEA final

In order for a point to be awarded as per (National Federation), the PIAA would have to adopt it.

Example: In BB and SB, there is no protest rule for either of these sports. Although its a FED rule, the PIAA has not adopted it.
