Rutabaga

Does any one out there have an easy way to peel and cut up a rutabaga? They are sooooo good, but it hurts my hands to prepare them. I've got one on cooking but I would like to know an easier way.

Re: Rutabaga

I am with you Zona...I do love those things...let one dry up in the fridge because I just kept putting it off until it was too late....Do not think you can substitute canned for the real thing, it just don't work unless I just do not know the tricks. There is just no easy way.

Re: Rutabaga

Okay, leave this to the imagination of Jimmy the Gurmit Cooker, who has GREAT experience with imagination and almost NONE with culinarology or WHATEVER it's called:

Cut that sucker into sections like orange slices...gottit?

That'll make it MUCH easier to slice off the outside...and you have to cut 'em up, ANYWAY, right? So that'll already be done, too!

Voilá!

Re: Rutabaga

Another thought is using a vegetable peeler. I haven't done it but that is a suggestion on a cooking site.

Re: Rutabaga

I hit onto an idea the other day and I believe it helped and I also used the potato peeler for the first time. Here's what I did after contemplating it for a while...my wife said you want it you peel it...I took a paper towel, laid it in the microwave and place the rutabaga on the towel. I think I set it on about a minute and a half, full bore and let her go. Most of the wax ran off onto the towel and the that peeler just glided along like it was a carrot. Like said don't know which worked but like Lathan says, if it works don't knock it, or something like that.

Horace,
That sounds like a winner to me.
Thanks. Zona
