TRANSFORMATION BY BEHOLDING THE GLORY OF YHWH

Every Christian is a Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, as we all should know from our experience and from feedback that others give us -- as well as our own observation of other Christians. At one time we may act as filled with the Spirit and at another time as a child of Adam. This situation is the result of two facts: (1) We have been born again -- old things have passed away and all has become new; (2) We still have indwelling Sin, which dwells in our "flesh" (old human nature or old man) See 1 John: If we say that we have no Sin, we deceive ourselves; See Romans 7, where Sin is said to dwell in our "flesh."
The difference between being in the Old Man status and in the New Man status is trans-form-ation (meta-morph-o-sis). The Christian has two forms (Greek word morphe = form). Romans 12:1-2 and 2 Cor. 3:18 speak directly to the issue of transformation. In Galatians Paul states that he is in travail until Christ be formed (morphed) in the readers. Ephesians speaks of putting off the Old Man and putting on the New Man. Romans 13 speaks of putting on Christ.

Scripture indicates at least 2 ways of enhancing the transformantion. One is meditating on the love of Christ, which constrains us. The other is beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord ( = the Lord Jesus), who is the founder of the new race of man, a race which has the Christ form. The "mirror" at our disposal is the Bible (see James on mirror).

One can get out one's Bible and highlight the passages wherein the Glory of YHWH (Yahweh, Jehovah = THE LORD)is presented, although in a secondary sense all of scripture shows His glory. I will quote some of the passages on the Glory of YHWH below. To view more of them I direct you to my own website: BibleAndTheology.com

of fire by night, departed not from before the people.

the thunderings and the lightnings and
the voice of the trumpet and
the mountain smoking;

Ex 20:21b

work of sapphire stone and, as it were, the very heaven for clearness.

and the cloud covered the mount.
{24:16} And the glory of YHWH abode upon mount Sinai,
and the cloud covered it six days;
and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud. {24:17}
And the appearance of the glory of YHWH was
like devouring fire on the top of the mount
in the eyes of the children of Israel.
{24:18} And Moses entered into the midst of the cloud,

Ex 33:9b
And it came to pass, when Moses entered into the Tent, the pillar of cloud

descended in the cloud and
stood with him there and

YHWH, a God
merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and truth,
{34:7} keeping lovingkindness for thousands,
forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin;
and Who will by no means clear [the guilty],
visiting the iniquity of the fathers
upon the children and
upon the children's children,
upon the third and upon the fourth generation.

Ex 40:34
Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting,
and the glory of YHWH filled the tabernacle.
And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of meeting because
the cloud abode thereon, and
the glory of YHWH filled the tabernacle.
And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle,
the children of Israel went onward throughout all their journeys;
but if the cloud was not taken up,
then they did not journey till the day that it was taken up.
For the cloud of YHWH was upon the tabernacle by day,
and here was fire therein by night in the sight of all the house of Israel
throughout all their journeys.

And Moses and Aaron
went into the tent of meeting and
came out and
blessed the people,

Num 9:15
And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up

the tabernacle, even
the tent of the testimony; and
at even
it was upon the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire
until morning.

the cloud covered it, and
the appearance of fire by night.

And whenever the cloud was taken up from over the Tent,
then after that
the children of Israel journeyed;
and in the place where
the cloud abode, there the children of Israel encamped.
At the commandment of YHWH the children of Israel journeyed, and
at the commandment of YHWH they encamped;
as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they remained encamped.
And when the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle many days,
then the children of Israel
kept the charge of YHWH and
did not.
And sometimes the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle;
then according to the commandment of YHWH they remained encamped, and
according to the commandment of YHWH they journeyed.
And sometimes the cloud was from evening until morning;
and when the cloud was taken up in the morning, they journeyed;
or [ if it continued ] by day and by night,
when the cloud was taken up, they journeyed.
Whether it were two days or a month or a year
that the cloud
tarried upon the tabernacle,
abiding thereon,
the children of Israel
remained encamped and
did not journey;
but when it was taken up, they journeyed.

Num 11:1

and the glory of YHWH appeared unto them.

Deut 4:11
And You* came near and stood under the mountain;
and the mountain
burned with fire unto the heart of heaven,
with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness. {4:12}
And YHWH spoke unto You* out of the midst of the fire;
You* heard the voice of words, but
You saw no form; only a voice.

12:18
For You* have not come unto
[ a mount]
that might be touched and
that burned with fire, and unto
blackness and
darkness and
tempest 19 and
the sound of a trumpet and
the voice of words,
which [voice] they who heard entreated
that no word more should be spoken unto them;
20 for they could not endure that which was enjoined:

If even a beast touch the mountain,
it shall be stoned.

21 (And so fearful was the appearance, [that] Moses said:

I exceedingly fear
and quake.)

22 But You* are come
unto mount Zion and
unto the city of the living God,
the heavenly Jerusalem and
to innumerable hosts of angels,
23 to the general assembly and
church of the firstborn who are enrolled in Heaven and
to God the Judge of all and
to the spirits of just men made perfect 24 and
to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant and
to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better than [that of] Abel.

lift up my hand to heaven and
say
As I live forever;
if I
whet the lightning of My sword, And
my hand take hold on judgment;
I will render vengeance to my adversaires,
I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, And
my sword shall devour flesh; . . . .

Dt 33:1b-33a
Moses . . . said:
YHWH came from Sinai
and rose from Seir unto them;
He shined forth from mount Paran, and
He came from the ten thousands of holy ones:
At his right hand was a fiery law for them.
{33:3} Yea, he loveth the people;
All His saints are in Your hand;

2 Sam 22:9- ~ Ps 18 (messianic)

Then the earth shook and trembled,
The foundations of heaven
quaked And
were shaken, because
He was wroth.
There went up a smoke out of His nostrils,
And fire out of his mouth devoured;
Coals were kindled by it.

He bowed the heavens also and came down;
And thick darkness was under his feet. And

He rode upon a cherub and flew; Yea,
He was seen upon the wings of the wind. And

He made
darkness pavilions round about him,
Gathering of waters,
thick clouds of the skies.

At the brightness before him Coals of fire were kindled.

YHWH thundered from heaven, And
the Most High uttered his voice. And
He sent out
arrows and scattered them,
Lightning and discomfited them.
Then
the channels of the sea appeared,
The foundations of the world were laid bare
By the rebuke of YHWH,
At the blast of the breath of His nostrils.

He sent from on high, He took Me;
He drew Me
out of many waters;
He delivered Me
from My strong enemy,
from them that hated Me; for
they were too mighty for Me.
They came upon Me in the day of My calamity; But

The foundations also of the mountains quaked and were shaken,
Because He was wroth.

8 There went up a smoke out of His nostrils,
And fire out of his mouth devoured;
Coals were kindled by it.

9 He bowed the heavens also,
And came down;
And thick darkness was under His feet.

10 And He rode upon a cherub,
And did fly;
Yea, He soared upon the wings of the wind.

11 He made darkness His hiding-place,
His pavilion round about him,
Darkness of waters,
Thick clouds of the skies.
12 At the brightness before Him
His thick clouds passed,
Hailstones
And coals of fire.

13 YHWH also thundered in the heavens,
And the Most High uttered his voice,
Hailstones And
coals of fire.
14 And He sent out his arrows and scattered them;
Yea, lightnings manifold, and discomfited them.

15 Then the channels of waters appeared,
And the foundations of the world were laid bare,
At Your rebuke, O YHWH,
At the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.

16 He sent from on high;
He took me;
He drew me out of many waters.
17 He delivered me from my strong enemy . . . .
