BIBLE AND THEOLOGY FORUM

Welcome!  You are at BibleAndTheology.com, which is the general forum for BibleAndTheology.org.  Persons are invited to post on Bible and Theology (widely interpreted).  Some postings may be chosen to be reposted on BibleAndTheology.org.  Give & receive love here. If you post here, please do not use "Anonymous" or the like. Choose your own screen names, but do not use one that you know is already being used by someone else. Please:

1. You may debate with any ideas posted, but do not post objections to the topic, style, spelling, use of capital letters, or grammar of anyone's posting.  For example, you may debate whether the moon is made of green cheese, but kindly refrain from reviling a poster by telling him that it is politically incorrect to discuss green cheese.

2. Do not post complaints or attacks vs. other posters.

3. No obscene language, cuss words, or blasphemy may be used.

4. Send complaints privately by e-mail to NellPatKay@hotmail.com.  If your posting is deleted, it could be because it violates forum rules or is just chosen for a short run on the forum.

Note that if you paste onto the Forum, for some reason Bravenet may change your quote marks and apostrophes into something else, like little boxes or funny U's.   Thanks for coming, participating, and for showing love .

The Gospel

Preliminary definitions:
A. God is a triunity. There is one God as to His essence. This one God has 3 ego's or persons: Father, Son, & Holy Spirit. The father-son relationship within the Trinity is eternal. There are not 3 gods. The one God is not explained as to his threeness by a modal explanation, like one man is a father, a son, & a husband.

God is eternal, omnipotent, omniscient, & omnipresent. He created all things. He is not the universe; the universe is His creation.

B. The 2nd person of the Triune God is called the Son of God. Around 2000 years ago he added a human nature to His divine nature. He is called Christ, the anointed, because He was appointed by God & came as the prophesied Savior & King of the nation of Israel (which is not the Church). Thus Christ has 2 natures: 1) God (YHWH) and 2) man. The two natures are separate. Christ is not an intermediate being half way between God and man, but one person with 2 natures.

C. Israel is God's chosen people going back to Abraham around 2000 BC. Israel rejected Christ when He came, and God began another program called the "Church," which consists in this age of all who trust Christ as Savior. It is no denomination. However, God will yet finish His program with Israel.

THE GOSPEL

1. We are all sinners. "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

2. The punishment for sin is death. "Death" includes physical death, separation of the spirit from the body and "spiritual death," which is separation of a man from God. Adam ate the forbidden fruit tho he had been told that in the day he ate thereof he would die. Next we see Adam hiding from God. Sins make a separation between the man and his God. The ultimate expression of death is called "the second death," which consists of being in the Lake of Fire.

"the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord."
"it is appointed to man once to die, but after that the judgment."

We earn death by sin. Since we are all sinners, we all must die physically, and are separated from God and doomed to the Lake of Fire.

3. God provided a way of escape by having His Son die on the cross to pay for our sins. As our substitute, Christ died for us, instead of us.

On the cross Christ died. He cried out, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me." The explanation is that Christ was separated from God (death) for us, separated in His human nature.

"The Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all." "With His bruising we are healed."
"But God commends His own love towards us, in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us."

"God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

4. Christ rose from the dead, ascended to Heaven, and will return. His body was transformed, His spirit reunited with it. (See the end of all 4 gospels & the start of Acts.)

5. Although Christ paid the price (like He endured our Hell for us) on the cross, this does not automatically save everyone. In order to experience a personal transformation (a new birth) and receive eternal life, one must trust (depend on) the Lord Jesus as Savior. One can express one's trust in a prayer, calling on the name of the Lord Jesus.

"For whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord (Jesus) shall be saved."

There is none other name under heaven, given among men whereby we must be saved.

6. Salvation is a free gift by grace (undeserved favor).

'the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord"

"For we also once were foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. But when the kindness of God our Savior, and his love toward man, appeared, not by works done in righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 which he poured out upon us richly, through Jesus Christ our Savior; that, being justified by his grace, we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life."

"And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ ( by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus, in order that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

7. At this moment you may be transformed and receive eternal life, if you will simply put your trust in Christ. Call on His name trusting Him as your Savior.
