Sonoras Jr., John Gregory, age 87 of Newport, passed away peacefully at home November 1, 2021.

Greg was a life member of Swan and a great friend and neighbor. He was a character to be appreciated. Born October 24, 1934 in Detroit, to the late John Gregory and Edna Sonoras. After graduating from Airport High School, Greg spent several years at the Chrysler Corporation before opening his own business, Greg’s Electric. Which later became Newport Electric, Inc.

In his spare time, Greg was an avid boater, enjoyed riding motorcycles, snowmobiles, piloting his personal aircrafts, and collecting classic antique cars. Greg also spent many years as a volunteer fireman with the Newport Fire Department Station #1.

Greg leaves to cherish his memory his children Linda Sue Sonoras, James G. (Stacy Martin) Sonoras, Carol Cornell, and John (Cindy) Sonoras. Proud grandfather of Angela (Aaron) Parker, Kelsey D. Cornell, Justin (Tessa) Cornell, April (Michael) Thomas, Joe (Jennifer) Sonoras, and Joel Sonoras. Great grandfather of Skylar, Savanna, Dominic, Alyssa, Carter, Aiden, Carson, Cameron, Annabelle, and Rose. Great-great grandfather of David. Also survived by his siblings Joan Sonoras, Pat (Barb) Sonoras, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by granddaughter Melissa, brothers Edward and Charles Sonoras, and daughter-in-law Maryellen Sonoras.

Visitation will take place on Sunday November 7, 2021 from 2:00PM-8:00PM and Monday November 8, 2021 from 12:00PM-8:00PM, Rosary Service 6:30PM, at the Ford Chapel- Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 23620 N. Huron River, Rockwood, MI 48173. The family will receive friends on Tuesday November 9, 2021 from 9:30AM until time of Funeral Mass 10:30AM, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 8125 Swan Creek Rd., Newport, MI 48166. Interment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery.
