Been there, done that Marilyn, Usually a piece of glass was your toy, you had to ring each square with it and retrive the toy using different methods, hopping on one foot. We played all day at 44 Twin st. Boy or girl, didn't matter. MVB ES
Same in Dairyland. We had those big wide concrete sidewalks(formerly chicken pens) in the back of our houses and they made for great roller skating hopscotching or basketball.
Can't remember the rules exactly, but if you stepped on one of the cracks or lost your balance you were out and if you stepped on the crack you were going to break your mother's back. There was some kind of ditty we chanted as we hopped along.

I do believe you are right...it has just been such a long time. I was trying to think of some of the chants we had when we were jumping rope also...You know, I never see kids do that anymore. Sure missing a lot of fun.
