Re: The Forks....

MARILYN, MAYBE OLD FOGEY OR LLOYD COULD FILL YOU IN ON THE FORKS, BUT WHEN I WAS ABOUT 11 OR 12 I REMEMBER IT WAS THE PLACE TO GO FOR YOUNG PEOPLE,KINDA LIKE THE WHITE MIDGET WHEN WE WERE YOUNG. I REMEMBER A WOODEN FENCE ACROSS THE BACK PARKING PLACE WHICH HAD ONE CAR WOODEN STALLS ALONG THE FENCE FOR PRIVACEY,(NECKING, SMOOCHING, OR WHAT EVER). THEY HAD A RESTUARANT THAT RUBY, MY SIS AND CORNY, MY BRO IN LAW WOULD TAKE US KIDS TO BUT WE DIDN'T PARK IN THE STALLS BUT UP FRONT. THAT'S ABOUT ALL I REMEMBER ABOUT IT. MAY SOME OTHER MVBS WILL HAVE SOME INPUT. MVB ES
PS I DO REMEMBER A FEW YEARS AFTER THAT, ONE MAN HAD HIS THROAT CUT THERE AND ANOTHER WAS KILLED IN THE RESTUARANT. I WITNESSED BOTH OF THESE EVENTS. I QUIT GOING THERE AFTER THAT. ES

Re: Re: The Forks....

My sister, being 4 years ahead of me in school, of course, got her drivers liscense and looked for any excuse to take the car out...was easier for some reason if she offered to take me along. She ran all the errands at that time but always had to make a loop around the forks. I never did see anything going on so I never quite figured out what the attraction was. Since she went to Comer and her boyfriend, later husband, Don Bulger, went to Sylacauga I just sort of figured it was a Sylacauga High School thing and she was checking it out. Those kind of things I just did not question at the time and now I wonder....not that it is important.

Re: Re: Re: The Forks....

It wasn't just a SHS thing. I worked there as a carhop for quite some time when I was a kid. It was lots of fun. Get Cubby started about The Forks and Claude Newman and Jim Nabors. Jim's folks ran the service station next door, while his uncle Claude ran The Forks.
