One thing for sure. I'm glad I didn't have to make some of those calls. Those goal line calls are really tough when it's close like that, but if any, and I mean any part of the ball, even 1/8 of an inch penetrates the imaginary vertical line over the goal line, it's a T.D. And I have made those calls before, and once you make it, you have to sell it (which the linesman did not do, and that looked bad). No matter which way you go, you are going to make one team mad. But that's the way it goes. Don't forget that Pittsburgh still had another down to score on from the 4 inch line. But again, who knows, coulda fumbled. All in all, the officials had a terrible day. The AHSAA football championship games, played in December at Legion Field, had better officiating than the Super Bowl.
I hate the football 'penetration' rule. I think the ball carrier should have his body and the football over the goal line.
Do you know the origin of the word TOUCHDOWN? In the early days of football the runner had to literally touch the ball down on the ground in the end zone. So, technically, most Touchdowns aren't really Touchdowns.
