Re: Re: Home again

Will do Chuck,
It was cold here too Horace, I turned on the gas heaters last nite, we have a heatpump but I just like to see fire when it's that cold.
Me and Oner have been fighting the crud since August, don't know how many bottles of meds we've took. It'll get better for a while then freshen up again.
Jimmy, Don't remember eating any tripe but I must have cause we ate everything except the hide and hair. Don't know if I could eat brains and eggs now or not, I sure won"t eat chittlins. Y'all stay warm! MVB ES

Re: Re: Re: Home again

Yep, brains and eggs were one of my Dad's favorite breakfasts..But I never would eat them..I watched him open the package one morning and that did it for me..
I also remember tripe when I was a kid, but as it was stated, it was tough and it also didn't win a place in my heart..

Re: Re: Re: Re: Home again

Did you ever eat any possum Fogey? MVB ES

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Home again

Nope, never had a chance..But I'm game if someone throws a possum dinner..Had one in my back yard for awhile last year..

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Home again

Mother cooked the brains and eggs and fried the tripe but I didn't care for either. I did try to help one time when I was very small and daddy was dressing out a hog. They made me stay in the house and mama had left her meat grinder set up on the cabinet so when she brought the pan of brains inside and left them on the cabinet, I helped out by grinding them up. Needless to say they weren't happy with me.

I loved tripe because of the taste and because it lasted a LONG time, no matter how good your teeth were. Dunno how cow guts could taste so good, but they sure did.

On the other hand, I tried some menudo made by one of my school ladies in Encinal once, and I REALLY couldn't handle that. Menudo is a sort of soup/stew stuff made with chopped up cow stomach and corn and some other stuff. YUCKetty-YUCK-YUCK!
