Sylacauga on Monday to visit with a cousin who I saw last in 1958. He was in town for three days to visit relatives and old friends. We talked of old times, places and people.
Coincidentally at the same time two other childhood friends, close neighbors on the County Line Road and brothers were also in town for a visit. We had long chats, visits and told tales that only we knew of each other. I've seen one of them a few times over the past few years since he lives here in the Panhandle, but the other, who lives in Texas, I've not seen more than three times in 50 years.
This cousin is a Bentley who attended Gantt's Quarry with me for awhile until he moved, back in '58. The Foster brothers also attended Gantt's Quarry with me until they moved on to BB Comer and graduated before I got to BBC.
Both of these were occasions that were priceless and I can't adequately describe how much pleasure I gained from a 24 hour experience.
These occasions mean so much more than they did 30 years ago. We all know that each visit may be the last for any of us, so we cherish them.
ratcheyah Been travelling went to Maryland for my babies 50th birthday then her first born's 24th and dramatic performance as the Little Mermaid by her youngest who is graduating from home school high school and preparing to enter college in the fall where she was just awarded the University's President's scholarship bigger for her parents than for her.
The Bentley cousin you may know. He is my Aunt Myrtle Bentley's youngest. His name is Lemuel. They grew up mostly in Arizona, except for a short stint in the late 50's back in Sylacauga.
You got it. My aunt Myrtle was one of the Sally and Paulie Jones clan. The old grey matter would have had trouble with the names of this clan even 50 years ago. There were a LOT of them!
