I\'m researching my ancestors who were James Lambie and Jean Simpson, and in 1806 had a little girl Jane Lambie who went on to marry David Murray in Old Cumnock Parish Church. I am descended of their union. Great to get a sense of where Jane grew up. Will visit one day. |

Have just read Eleanor Climie\'s Castle history and thoroughly enjoyed being reminded of how things used to be in New Cumnock. I\'m a couple of years younger than Eleanor but still recall quite a few of the people and places in her article. Fabulous recollection and I recommend all who have a connection with N.C. to have a look. Many thanks Eleanor for taking the time to write it. |

I don\'t usually put obituaries on the website but there can be exceptions to the rule. Patrick \'Paddy\' Dornan passed away last Sunday at the age of 86 at Ayr Hospital. He was the nicest of men and a Christian Gentleman. He was always supported by his wife Mary sometimes called \'Mary Doll\' who was also someone who supported the Parish Church. He was also a great supporter of this website right from the time of its creation. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and especially his wife and family. The funeral is at 10.00am on Wednesday 10th May at the Parish Church. |

Both my grandparents (Bennet and Trotter) were born in New Cumnock, but emigrated to Canada. I am downsizing in preparation for a move to smaller quarters later this year. I have a number of mounted portraits of individuals, couples, families taken by Colin Campbell, Andrew Miller, J. Ballentine, J. Cook, Wilhelm Hess and other studio photographers. Don\'t know who these people are, but I hate to simply discard the pictures. I could scan and have you post them or I could pop them in the mail if you have a file for unidentified photos. Please let me know, or they will hit the trash bin in a few weeks. |

Hi. I am writing an article on the future of the Catcraig Water Tank near Dundonald and saw a lovely photo of it on this page from circa 1935. Would it be possible to obtain permission from this page to use the picture to go with my proposed article? Hope you can advise. Best regards Paul |

Could the unknown female shop assistant in Ayr / Pamela Hugues be my Gran Jenny Murdoch / Curry (nee Walker) who used to live in Afton Cottages? I have a picture of her looking very similar around that time. I know she worked in a sweet shop but she may have worked in other shops too. |

I have a trophy silver tray and pewter tea set presented to my great grandfather Mr Cullen for services to the New Cumnock Cricket club on 3.2.1893. This has been buried in a trunk for the past 50 years and I have no story to go with it. My mother, Moya Maud May was the daughter of Eva Cross Cullen whose father was presented with the tray. Anyone know the family? I’d love to know more. |

The last article to be posted was Eleanor Currie\'s story of growing up and living at the Castle. Eleanor has now written her own History of the Castle in the 50\'s and 60\'s which follows on from Bobby Rogerson\'s history. The article will appear within the next day or two. |

A new post has been displayed on the side bar for Eleanor Currie. Eleanor was the Director of Education for East Renfrewshire. She invited H.M.I. to inspect the education department in that authority and it received glowing reports. She was then invited to look into how the Educational Psychologists did their work in schools and produced a paper which became known as the \'Currie Report.\' Shortly afterwards she was awarded the OBE. A very successful New Cumnock girl. |

My great, great grandfather, John McCrone, was born in Scotland in 1795; family lore suggests he was from somewhere in Ayrshire. He emigrated to America sometime prior to 1823 and lived there the remainder of his life until his death in 1852. I have tried many ways to establish who his parents were but so far without success. There was a John McCrone born in 1795 in New Cumnock (parents James McCrone and Mary Lammie; older sister Agnes born in 1788), but I have no way of knowing if this is my great, great grandfather. I am wondering if anyone in the McCrone families in your area have ever documented their genealogy going back over 200 years. If you or anyone you know might be of help, please have them email me. |

My apologies to John Gillespie for his post of February 21st only appearing now. It seems the Guestbook is now only posting after prior approval from myself, something it has never done previously. Unfortunately it only informed me of this today! |

Great site, I have been in the village now for over 20 years, working as a GP and helping with the local churches especially Bridgend Gospel Hall. I have had the privelage of conducting a number of funerals for some of the families spoken of here, and recognise many of the folks and places mentioned. Some of the recordings of those services can be found at: https://graceinchrist.org/ What a rich history New Cumnock has. Thanks for your hard work. |

Noticed the last few times in New Cumnock that the old running track next to what was McKechnies garage is under going some radical reform. The area has been dug up with pyramids of earth left around it. Any idea what is happening there ? |

Can anyone give me any information on the Capperauld family from new cumnock. While searching my family tree I have found different spellings of Capperauld such as Capprill, capper and other spellings. Has any Capperaulds got any information as we have discovered two different spelling of the surname when they lived at wanlochead? Had same family names, date of birth but two different surnames relating to Capperauld. |
